Art with Ms. Campbell
Pre-K - 4th grade:
All students will be studying famous artist and will create artwork that is inspired by those artist. Lessons are created to cover all VA Visual Art SOLs, and to support the SOL’s for additional content areas that students will be learning in their base classroom. Students will have the opportunity to creatively express themselves by using many art mediums such as oil pastels, artist chalk, paint, printing making, mixed media artwork, clay……..
Music
Here's what we're learning in class this month:
Pre-K and Kindergarten:
- We are learning how to use the percussion instruments in our packets this month: rhythm sticks, egg shaker, scrapers, and scarves. We are also learning how to use hand drums and lollipop drums.
- We are adding these instruments to enhance the story, There Was an Old Woman Who Was Not Afraid of Anything
- We are working on vocal exploration using our head voice and singing voice
- We are working towards identifying high sounds versus low sounds
1st Grade:
- We are identifying number of sounds that we hear, as well as fast versus slow sounds
- We are labeling these sounds as "longs" and "short-shorts" (quarter notes and paired eighth notes)
- We are reading these rhythms (long and short-short) together on the SmartBoard and composing our own rhythms
- We are singing songs that use 2-note melodies (working towards labeling them as "sol" and "mi"
- We will be learning about different instruments that the Indigenous People of North America used and how music is used in their culture
2nd Grade:
- We are labeling long and short-short rhythms as "ta", "sh", and "ta-di" rhythms (quarter note, quarter rest and paired eighth notes) and practice reading and composing with the traditional notation
- We are singing and reading melodies with sol and mi, and getting ready to introduce la
- We are preparing for"too-oo" and "shh-hhh" rhythms (half note and half rest)
- We will be learning comparing different instruments that the Indigenous People of North America used with instruments that we use in the music room
- We will be comparing how music is used in our culture with how the Indigenous People of North America use music in their culture
3rd Grade:
- We are introducing reading and composing "ta-ka-di-mi" rhythms (sixteenth notes)
- We are composing our own dances using body percussion (stomp, pat knees, clap, snap etc.)
- We will be learning about materials used to make Indigenous North American instruments
- We will be comparing Indigenous North American singing with singing that we do in music currently
- We will be comparing how music is used in our culture with how the Indigenous People of North America use music in their culture
4th Grade:
- We are reviewing rhythms with "ta-ka-di-mi" (sixteenth notes) and preparing for "ta-di-mi" rhythms (eighth note attached/followed by two sixteenth notes)
- We are reviewing reading and singing melodies with do, re, and mi on a three-line staff
- We will be learning about materials used to make Indigenous North American instruments
- We will be comparing Indigenous North American singing with singing that we do in music currently
- We will be comparing how music is used in our culture with how the Indigenous People of North America use music in their culture
