Fourth Grade News

The Week of April 4, 2016

Coming Up This Week:

Reading- The students will continue tracking for figurative language in our read aloud of Last Summer with Maizon. We will also review identification of various text structures and compare/contrast samples of different genres.

Writing- We will wrap up our unit on imaginative writing, and will also practice comparison/contrast writing.

Social Studies- Our Underground Railroad assessment will be on Tuesday, 4/5. We will then begin our unit on the Midwest.

Math- The students will continue practicing long division with 3 and 4 digit dividends. They will also begin multiplying 2 digits by 2 digits and start our unit on fractions.

Science- We will continue learning about hibernation and migration, and then we will begin animal research projects. There are no supplies needed for this project besides a picture of the animal if the children decide not to draw it.

Math Fact Fluency!

Please continue to practice basic multiplication and division facts with your child at home. The more fluent they are with the facts, the easier long division and multiplication will become. Students who are not fluent with their facts may become More easily frustrated when solving long division and double digit multiplication problems. Thank you for your continued support at home.

Below is a new math resource site that I was just exposed to. I thought you may be interesting in exploring it. Just click on the grade level and begin exploring the various resources.
