LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Longhorn Families,

Welcome to December! Let’s get ready from some cooler temperatures. This is the time of year when winter weather and children’s illnesses can take a toll on school attendance. However, it’s important to get your children to school every day if possible on time. Absences, even if they are excused, can add up to academic trouble. Here are some ways to keep your children healthy during winter months.

  • Dress warmly for the cold weather.
  • It is important to eat a good breakfast every morning.
  • Wash hands several times during each day.
  • Talk to your child’s doctor or our school health assistant about when a sick child should come to school. Children with a cold should come to school as long as there is no fever present.

Our PTO Holiday Shoppe is up and running. Thank you for supporting our PTO, and as a way to thank you for your support, we hope you join us for our annual craft night. Children who attend will make about 12 different holiday themed craft projects that they can give to members of the family as gifts for free. The third grade teachers will have a face-painting booth for $1 and Santa will make an appearance for pictures. This year there will be a food truck in the courtyard. They take cash or a card. It is always a fun night for children.

We ask that you pay attention and remember to be safe when driving in our parking lots. It is difficult to see some children when driving your car and remember…they believe you will stop. We understand waiting may be difficult, but we want everyone to be safe.

Did you say holiday musical? Our first grade students will perform "Christmas Down Under" on December 17th at 5:30 pm. They have been working very hard on learning songs and their speaking parts. We hope you can join us.

We hope everyone has a wonderful and peaceful holiday season!

Ms. Jacqueline Camacho

Principal

SIGN IN/OUT INFORMATION

If your child arrives at school after 9:00 am, a parent or guardian must sign in the child in the front office. If you need to pick your child up early from school, a parent or guardian must sign him/her out in the front office.

Please call in to excuse absences at 696-8450 or call our Attendance Line 696-4808 (available 24 hours a day). Please leave your child's name, your name, and a brief messages to why your child is absent.

Thank you for understanding!

Every School Day Counts!

We cannot teach a child who does not attend school on a daily basis. It is important for your child to be at school on time daily.

The state of Arizona (A.R.S § 15 – 803) states that a student is habitually truant from school when he/she misses 5 school days.

This year students with 5 unverified absences (no one let the office know the reason for the absence) or excessive absences (10% or 18 days) will require a meeting with the principal to create a plan to increase your child’s attendance.

If your child is ill, has a fever, or is vomiting he/she should stay at home to keep from spreading germs to others.

Congratulations Ms. Camacho!!

“Light precedes every transition. Whether at the end of a tunnel, through a crack in the door, or the flash of an idea, it is always there, heralding a new beginning.”

― Teresa Tsalaky

Many emotions accompany change and we are feeling "all the feels" here at Laguna as Ms. Camacho transitions to her new position as the Director of Student Services. Of course, we are sad to see her go and change makes many of us uncomfortable but we're happy about her new opportunity and excited for new possibilities. We also feel lucky that we don't really have to say goodbye because we know we will still see her here and around the district. Please help us congratulate Ms. Camacho and wish her well in her new position.

WAY TO GO LONGHORNS!!!

Laguna Casino Night

We would like to thank all the Laguna Families who attended our Casino Night on November 14. There were over 50 families in attendance who "hit the jackpot." We had a guest reader from the Flowing Wells Public Library do a read-aloud to kids and families. Kids made their own bookmarks, pointers, followed a recipe to make a delicious trail mix and they also rotated through other fun activities. All went home with a fun memory by taking selfies at our Casino photo booth, there were free books and prizes to take home. It is nice to see parents involved in their child's learning and we thank you for your support!
