"We need to prepare students for their future, not our past." -Daniel Pink

Thank you to those parents that attended our first parent iPad Night. We had some great conversations about parenting in the digital age.

Our next night is February 18, 2016 from 6 - 7 pm. Our focus for this session is around sharing and exploring iPad apps that your students can use.

Parenting in the Digital Age: Common Sense Media

Common Sense Mission:

Common Sense is dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology. We empower parents, teachers, and policymakers by providing unbiased information, trusted advice, and innovative tools to help them harness the power of media and technology as a positive force in all kids’ lives.

Common Sense Media helps families make smart media choices. We offer the largest, most trusted library of independent age-based and educational ratings and reviews for movies, games, apps, TV shows, websites, books, and music. Our Parent Concerns and Parent Blog help families understand and navigate the problems and possibilities of raising children in the digital age.

Read for 20 minutes everyday with these apps

If your student has a library card (from almost any library), the Overdrive App will allow them to check out eBooks, audiobooks and more. Many students already have the app and have connected it to their library card. If your student hasn't, you will need to call the library (824-5116) for a PIN number and download the app. Then they will need to connect the app to their library card by entering the library name, their library card number and the PIN number. This is an amazing way to provide your child with access to thousands of titles! Find more information by talking with the Moffat County Library.

Encouraging reading is one of the most important things you can do to help your child succeed in school. Sometimes it can be difficult to find books that kids will like and find motivating. Epic! is a service that provides a huge selection of eBooks, is personalized for each individual reader and provides access to thousands of high quality children's books without the need to purchase or download them one by one. Featuring fun, game-like elements, Epic! provides kids with a personal library they can take anywhere. In a world of unlimited screen time, Epic! is a smart alternative to games and videos. Epic! is available on all iOS and Android devices. Teacher accounts are free, so if your child's teacher has an account, they will already have access. You can sign up for a home account for $4.99/month. Get a 30 day free trial using the promo code EPICREADS at
