Principal Message
Perspectives of a Snow Day
Believe it or not, there is a huge range of emotions when there is a snow day. Need proof, just look at one of the social media forums. The same is true for students. The excitement of waking up by a parent telling you that school is cancelled can be an unexpected delight. In their mind, they begin making plans for the day…sledding, snowman, video games, more video games. However, for some, there is disappointment that they cannot go to school that day. Students may be disappointed that they won’t see their friends or teacher, or do the fun learning activities in class. Regardless of which one of those perspectives your child has, that’s okay.
A snow day can elicit a diverse set of emotions for adults too. Many families may be scrambling for childcare, while others may take the opportunity to go skiing. For me, it is a great opportunity to get extra work done in a quiet building. For my wife, it's a disruption from her work because children are home while she tries to have meetings.
Regardless of the situation, a snow day is a microcosm of our world. A small action like a snow day can cause a range of emotions and create an array of situations for those it affects. It is a reminder that perspectives can be diverse from a single stimulus. Understanding how the snow day affects my wife won't make me change my perspective. However, I may prance around the house with glee a little less. I will empathize with her a little more as she struggles to get work done that day.
Regardless of your perspective or the feelings of your child about a snow day, be safe and take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the snow.
Have a great weekend,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D.

Assistant Superintendent to Speak at PTO Meetings About Redistricting
Due to unforeseen growth, Depp and Eversole are significantly over capacity. As a result, changes in attendance boundaries are needed, which will impact Glacier Ridge, Pinney, and Karrer.
Assistant Superintendent, Jen Schwanke will attend the PTO meeting on Wednesday, February 16 at 10am to answer redistricting questions. The meeting will be virtual so that it is more accessible. It will be recorded for viewing later. You can access the live meeting at the link below:

If you can’t attend the GRE PTO meeting, you are welcome to attend the Depp PTO meeting and listen to Jen Schwanke speak about redistricting on Wednesday, February 16 @ 7pm in the Depp Elementary School commons.
Family Conference Information - Virtual
For the purpose of health and safety as well as family convenience, conferences will be virtual again this year. The official conference evenings will be February 9 & 17th. In addition to those dedicated two evenings, we will have a month and a half long window of time. Teachers will reach out to families to schedule a conference time to be scheduled between February 1 through March 11.
During conferences, your child’s teacher will address three main criteria:
What I know about your child as a learner and a person
Evidence of ways I’ve gotten to know your child using formal and informal data
Next instructional steps
If you have specific questions about your child that you want the teacher to prepare for and address within the allotted time, please reach out to let them know.
