Section 504

Section 504 is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Section 504 ensures that the child with a disability has equal access to an education. The student may receive accommodations through a 504 plan. The goal of a 504 plan is to remove barriers and allow students with disabilities to participate freely in public education or schools that receive public funding. It seeks to level the playing field so those students can safely pursue the same opportunities as everyone else.

Accommodations are designed so a student can learn in a classroom environment and participate in school just as they would if they didn't have a disability. These are specific to each student and each 504 plan will be uniquely suited to their needs.

Jennifer Aniston

Who knew one of America’s best TV Friends has dyslexia? Aniston herself didn’t know until she was in her 20s. She says finding out explained why it was so hard to read back in school and why she chose the role of class clown over teacher’s pet. The diagnosis answered a lot of questions. "I thought I wasn't smart. I just couldn't retain anything. Now I had this great discovery. I felt like all my childhood trauma-dies, tragedies, dramas, were explained," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
