News from this week
Dear Parents,
Thank you so much to all of the parents who were able to join me for Curriculum Night! I hope I was able to answer any questions you may have had. I know that if we work together all of the students will have a successful year. If you were unable to attend, please complete and sign the forms that are paper clipped together in your child's Friday folder. Please send these back as soon as possible. All other papers are for you to keep.
Also, here is a link to my presentation for those who missed it: https://tinyurl.com/ya3kexxs
Congratulations to our new student council representatives! They are Anna Mallory and Kadhelia Murray.
I apologize for any confusion with the science technology homework this week. My plan this year is to use Google Classroom for some assignments, and I am currently working out all of the kinks. We have already done one assignment in class where the students took a picture of their favorite part of them, and they wrote a paragraph about why it was their favorite. I got the idea from the book, The Best Part of Me, and I plan on making a classroom book from their projects.
As I mentioned last night, I will begin Morning Math sessions starting Tuesday September 11th at 7:15 AM. In these sessions I will provide extra help on our current math topics, as well as review past topics. You do not need to sign up. Just drop your child off at the front doors at 7:15. You can drive right through the bus loop. The buses will not be there at that time. Please do NOT use the car rider lane on the side of the building. The front doors are open and there is someone at the front desk. Your child will say that they are there for Morning Math with Mrs. Stoffle. Please be sure not to drop off your child early as there is no one available to watch them. If I ever need to cancel on a Tuesday, I will send a message via Remind.
There are picture order forms and Milestones scores in your child's Friday Folder this week. These reports are for you to keep. Also, I will be send home a typing log. Students will need to turn in a typing log with their reading log weekly. I have the links to the different typing practice sites on my eClass page. Students need to practice typing at least 20 minutes per week, and parents will sign the typing log to verify their child has practiced. If you do not have a typing log, just make a note on the back of their reading log to let me know. Students must do this to practice for Milestones testing which is done on the computer. This week is a practice week to help your child get used to doing it.
If you would like to donate any treats to our class treasure box, you may send them in at any time. I usually have small things in there, such as candy, small toys, pens, etc. The treasure box is one of the treats students can purchase with their classroom money. If you have a question about any items you may want to send in, just send me an email.
Our reading program has officially started. Reading logs will be sent home in Friday Folders for the following week, and they are due every Monday or the first day of the school week. Please make sure to sign your child's reading log every week or else it will not be counted. Also, if you decide to submit the reading log online, please send me an email by Monday morning. I do not get a list of online submissions until Wednesday, so I need to get the confirmation of submission from the parents.
Please refer to the important dates section below for some upcoming testing dates. Fourth grade is NOT testing, but we ask that you do not eat with your child during those dates.
I hope everyone has a wonderful 3 day weekend!
Mrs. Stoffle

What is PBIS?
Parents,
We have an exciting school wide initiative for the 2018-2019 school year! Gwin Oaks Elementary School is a PBIS School.
HOW PARENTS CAN SUPPORT PBIS?
Be Ready
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
September 7, 2018:
Family involvement in a child's education increases the child's likelihood of success. Your help with our behavior system is very important. We ask that you support our staff in the following ways:
• Please remind your child of the school's general behavior expectations each day before he/she leaves for school: Being ready, respectful, and responsible.
• Ask your child to give examples of how he/she demonstrated expectations while at school in different settings.
Thank you for your support. It is greatly appreciated.
