Mustangs in the Middle : August 22, 2020
From the desk of Principal Mrs. Boytim
I would like to begin this newsletter thanking all of our SMS staff. It has been such a privilege transitioning into this position and school district surrounded by such hard working and dedicated professionals. I would also like to thank all of our families for their flexibility and patience as we learn new ways and plan for the year. Thank you for a great pick up parade.
This year we are committed to working as ONE and maintaining the mindset of ONE school, ONE team and ONE family. The SMS team came together this week and prepared rigorous lessons and assessments, trained to learn and grow with new resources and technologies, changed, revised and arranged schedules to meet the needs of individual students, sanitized, moved boxes, and helped prepare and issue materials to all students. I am so proud to be part of this team and eager to start this year with our students. Remote 2.0, blended or all in, our staff is prepared to offer the best that they can and students will receive a well balanced curriculum and school experience.
In this newsletter, you will find very important details that will help you and your student be successful for the first day of school and throughout Remote 2.0. Please read all details, review schedules and expectations so that you and your student can work together with their teachers to be successful. You will also see a link to TEAM WEEKLY PREVIEW. Teachers created a preview of next week's goals and objectives, assignments and due dates by team. Please see this to help your student organize their week and meet classroom expectations.
A LIVE Parent Meeting will be scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 at 7 p.m. An email will be sent Monday with a link to the meeting, along with a form to ask questions. This form will allow families to ask questions and will help guide our conversation on Wednesday evening. Please look for this invitation and form and we look forward to seeing and talking with you on Wednesday!
Please email myself, Mrs. Bailey or Mrs. Peters any questions and feel free to discuss specific team questions with your teachers as well. Welcome to the 2020-21 school year. Strongsville Middle School is so excited to have you part of our family and our teachers are excited to see their students Monday at 9 a.m. live!
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Boytim

Remote 2.0 Schedule with Details
Please use your students schedule to identify which classes they have periods 1-9. You will then apply those classes to the periods listed in the schedules below.
STUDENTS NEED TO CHECK THEIR EMAIL- teachers have sent Google Classroom invitations to your student's Strongsville student email. Student emails are: GraduationYearLastName.FirstName@scsmustangs.org. Also, a student's password is their 6 digit ID number, first initial and last initial.
Example:
email: 27Smith.John@scsmustangs.org
password: 123456JS
Google Classroom is the MAIN HUB for all communication of assignments, due dates and resources from your teachers. Students will access each class period's Google Classroom to receive the link to attend that class' LIVE CLASSROOM during the scheduled class period. Please contact your teacher if you did not receive a classroom invitation or if you are having trouble following your schedule.

TEAM WEEKLY PREVIEWS
Parents can click on the link above and find their students' team. Inside the team folder, parent(s) and student(s) will have a weekly template that lists team announcements, students shout outs, goals for each class, weekly assignments and due dates. There is also a link to all of your student's grade level ELECTIVE TEACHERS, called THE VOYAGERS. Students are on a grade level team, as well as The VOYAGER team. Please be sure to click this link and your student's class to access all information and expectations for ALL classes.
Parents should use this as a way to follow up on student's Remote 2.0 weekly calendar and help them remain organized and on track with all of their classes.
From the desk of Mrs. Bailey
I wanted to thank all of our families for coming in this week to pick up your materials. It was so great to see all of you. I also wanted to thank all of our teachers and staff for going above and beyond this week. Our teachers worked very hard preparing for our students for Remote 2.0 and we are beyond excited to have students back next week!
Please let me know if you need anything and I hope you have a great first week!
Mrs. Bailey
From the desk of Mrs. Peters
We know this is going to be a process to adjust to, but it is going to be better than it was in the Spring. We have had so much time to prepare and plan for the teaching style of being remote. We are here for you. We are just a Zoom call away!
Stay positive and enjoy the Remote journey. We hope to be back together with our SMS family, under one roof soon. In the meantime, we are all still a family, working together, to make the best of it. Stay resilient and keep learning. Showing up, on line to your class, is the first step each day.
See you at 9:00am on Monday,
Mrs. J. Peters

The PTA does many things throughout the year and even with remote learning, we must have a strong PTA. Some of the things our PTA plans on doing this year are: providing funds for teachers to use directly on students and providing a scholarship to one Strongsville High School student. Please consider becoming a member and if you are able, donating to the PTA. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. The link below can be used to join and donate to the PTA.
Another way to support the PTA is through Amazon Smile. Click on this link and and follow the directions online. Choose to support Strongsville Middle School PTA on the website. This will cost you nothing. Amazon donates .05% of your sale back to Strongsville Middle School PTA.
Thank you,
Haley Labahn
