CANDY CANE LANE: Wednesday, December 11th
On the 8th day before Christmas break, my principals gave me a "Candy Cane Attack" & a "shorten" PD day!
The first recorded 'candy stick' comes from 1837 at an exhibition in Massachusetts in the USA. They started as straight white sugar sticks and a few years later the red stripes were added. The first time they are documented as being called 'candy canes' comes in 1866; and their first connection to Christmas comes from 1874. Early recipes had them as simply 'sugar' flavored. But we're now used to them being flavored with peppermint, wintergreen and many other flavors. The Candy Cane cart will be around throughout the day so you can enjoy your favorite! You are also encouraged to wear RED & WHITE!
The University of Management and Technology notes the use of the phrase "professional development" from 1857 onward. In the training of school staff in the United States, "[t]he need for professional development came to the forefront in the 1960's." Our PD session will end at 3:45 PM.
Daily Christmas Trivia Challenge: In what state does A Christmas Story take place?
Christmas Challenge/Blessing of the Day: Drop off a box of goodies to your local police or fire department.
Coal in Santa's Hand Hunt: Throughout the day, you probably noticed several pictures representing coal in Santa's hand, were placed throughout the building. For those of you who grabbed one of those on your way out of the building today or returned to the building later to find one, you have been officially added to Santa's naughty list. As I left around 5:30 PM this evening, I noticed that several were missing! Those were simply a decoy and meant to distract you. Mission accomplished!
What most of you probably missed were 10 little Elves, 5 Mr. K's and 5 Mrs. Smith's, hidden around the building. (see examples below) Grab one of these special little elves and claim your prize in the office. Find the one with a STAR on the back, win big! Limit 1 prize per person.
