Twin Peaks Middle School
Weekly RAM Newsletter
A Brief Note from Dr. Burke
Dear Ram families,
This week is Say Something Week! This special week, organized through Sandy Hook Promise, is dedicated to looking for warning signs and threats, especially on social media, from an individual who may be threatening to hurt themselves or others – and to Say Something to a trusted adult. We have planned a spirit week to bring awareness to this important week.
7th Grade Parent Night is scheduled for Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:00pm in the Little Theater. Our counselors are currently visiting 7th grade RAM classes to discuss with students the role middle school plays on their path to high school and post-secondary education which includes the course credit system used for high school graduation and the a-g requirements for admission to a CSU/UC campus. Students receive an Academic Review form with their GPA and most recent MAPs and Smarter Balance test scores. 7th Grade Parent Night is an opportunity for parents to hear the same information their student received, to gain information about how to support their student, and to ask questions. We hope to see you there.
This Thursday and Friday Poway High School counselors will be visiting our 8th grade Language Arts classes and talking to students about their high school courses and graduation requirements. The following week you don't want to miss Poway High School's 8th Grade Family Night on Tuesday, March 17th starting at 5pm.
Please be sure to read the complete Ram Newsletter for information on all upcoming events and activities.
I look forward to seeing all our students tomorrow, and remember, it's a 4/6/2 day.
Sincerely,
Dr. Burke
CTE Career Fair
The Twin Peaks Counseling Team partnered with the CTE (Career Technical Education) Office to host a career fair this Wednesday, February 26th during lunch. In attendance were members from the following groups:
Otterbox/Lifeproof
San Diego Electrical Training Institute
General Atomics
SDSU School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences
MiraCosta – Horticulture
PHS – Auto Technology
PHS – Agriculture/Future Farmers of America
PHS – Team Spyder
Rick Solo – Villalobos & Solo
Danielle Nicholas Hair Salon Owner
Stephen Neal – former NFL player and professional wrestler

The event was highly interactive: every organization’s booth had some activity for students to engage in – from learning how to tie a steer to engaging with life-saving equipment used by paramedics and firefighters. Our hope is to continue these conversations with our students and further tie in career technical education to the classroom. The passion from our presenters was contagious and engaged students in thinking about their own futures.
