Woodbury Junior-Senior High School - Weekly Newsletter
Friday, June 4, 2021
Message from the Principal:
It is mindboggling to think we only have two weeks of school left before the summer! The coming days will be filled with many activities and recognitions.
The long tradition of the Academic Bowl will continue on Monday. Student teams will compete against each other for the opportunity to go up against our faculty; good luck to all participants! We will be awarding standout 6th and 7th graders virtually once again this year; you can view that presentation on Tuesday. HS students will be competing in our Powder Puff game on the 8th; Mr. Howey just got a new trophy for the winner that you can see below! Our seniors are headed to Disney for their senior trip at the tail end of next week and then down to Wildwood the beginning of the following week; what fun! 8th graders will have their promotion ceremony on Friday and a special surprise during the day to help celebrate them.
Our wonderful faculty delivered lawn signs to our seniors this week. So as you drive around town and see the smiling faces of our 12th graders curbside, take a moment to celebrate their long journey towards adulthood. Woodbury High School and the entire community is so proud of their accomplishments and cannot wait to see all of the great things to come in their futures. #GoHerd
Finally, I would like to congratulate the last Students of the Month for the 2020-21 school year. Their names and pictures are below. We are super proud of them!
Enjoy the warm weather this weekend!

Dr. Vivadelli

End of Year AVID Celebration
What do a carton of eggs, a box of doughnuts, and the AVID end-of-year celebration have in common? They are all things that come in twelves. This year, the AVID family marked its 12th annual end-of-year celebration. During the virtual celebration, AVID students in grades 7 through 12 shared some class activities, such as researching careers and schools, honing time management strategies, and applying for colleges. Rowan University student Andy Figueroa Polanco, who graduated last year, spoke about how the AVID program helped him transition from high school to college.

News from the Nurse's Office
Student health screenings are currently in progress by our school nurse, Mrs. Dreger. If your child is fully remote, and you wish for him/her to be screened this school year, please call or email our nurse to set up an appointment. Available time slots are Monday – Friday 1-3 pm. The nurse checks height, weight, and blood pressure; screenings are done for hearing, vision, and scoliosis (depending on age/grade of child). Mrs. Dreger can be reached at 856-853-0123 ext. 250 and/or kdreger@woodburysch.com
In addition, if you have received a vision referral letter in the mail, and taking your child to see an eye specialist would be a financial hardship, please contact Mrs. Dreger. There are coupons available for a free eye exam/free pair of glasses, and one of the participating providers is right here in Woodbury – Friedberg Eye Associates! In order to qualify for the coupon, the child cannot have any vision insurance/coverage. Your child’s vision health is very important If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse.

News from 21st Century Thundering Herd
Thank you to all who participated in the 21st Century Among Us Tournament! We had 47 different students participate over 5 days of competition. 47 was whittled down to 10 for Grand Finals on Day 6. Masterful imposter play from Caleb Currie earned him the victory and the $40 Amazon prize as he edged out second place Dakota Anderson-Furman, who still earned $20. 7th grader Ray Gordon-Johnson took third for $15, while Dan Doan and Elijah Young took 4th and 5th place respectively, earning $10 each.
Great job to all participants and we hope to see more players next year! If you have any game suggestions, reach out to Mr. DiMarco and Ms. Rodgers!"
Keep an eye out for more information about our in-person summer program during July!
