Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
Thank you for a great week of conferences. We had tremendous attendance and I am so grateful we had parents back in the building, in order to meet with staff. If you were unable to get all of your questions answered, please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers. If you need help please let our office know.
Watch D.O.G.S
If you are a Father, grandfather, step-father, uncle, or any other father figure and would like to come to West to read to students, help out on the playground and/or in classrooms please let me know. You can send me an email- tquinn@nvps.net. There have been a few of you to reach out already- thank you! We will be setting up a schedule soon and be connecting with all of those individuals interested.
As the weather changes, please remind your children to wear the appropriate clothing to school. The temperature changes occur quickly throughout the day this time of year, so please help your students plan accordingly (Guidelines Below).
West Oakview Weekly Update
We have changed the format and Mrs. Haven has done an amazing job of putting a lot of information into the update. Please make sure to check out the many activities students can sign up for and the “Nurses Corner,” which impact a lot of our students daily.
Finally, a friendly reminder we do not have school tomorrow (Friday, October 21st), have a great three day weekend!
West is…
Best,
Tony
A Mindful Moment
What a joy it has been to be out in classrooms for lessons this month! So exciting to meet a new group of students and see familiar faces, taller and more mature. This month, we’re working to notice the similarities and differences among the people in our lives and to treat others with acceptance. We’re also starting to add breathing strategies to our toolbox. Ask your student to teach you their favorite breath at home! Look for more resources and activities available in your building during conferences. If you haven’t checked out the available online resources, please visit the Northview Mindfulness and SEL website!
Sending you calm,
Mrs. Eyestone
Nurse's Corner
- Please remember that you cannot send medicine to school with a student, regardless of it is OTC or prescription. A Northview permission form for medication at school must be filled out before office staff can give it to the student.
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.
