A Principal's Perspective

Wishing you and your family a happy and safe holiday! See you Monday, January 6, 2019!

Middle School Moment

We made it! Today, Friday, December 20th is our last school day of 2020. Winter break begins for all of us at 4:00 this afternoon.

Parents, thank you for having your students here every day this week. Students completed the required NWEA testing to the best of their abilities, so now we, the teachers, are looking forward to implementing personalized learning paths for your scholars in January. We are hoping to see tremendous growth during the first months of 2020.

Need an idea for a last minute stocking stuffer? How about giving your student a copy of The Watsons Go to Birmingham? It is available at local bookstores and through Amazon.

(Search The Watsons Go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis.)

We are hoping to see the play this winter at the Indiana Repertory Theater in downtown Indianapolis, and it would be helpful for all students to have their own copy of this classic story.

Here’s to a wonderful holiday season for everyone this year. Stay safe and warm!

Dean's Corner -- Discussion With The Dean

Dear Renaissance Family,

I hope this email finds you well. As we leave for winter break, please remember to do something positive for yourself and your family. Please remember to make good choices and stay safe.

We look forward to returning in January with a positive and focused frame of mind ready to complete the school year. This will be crunch time for many of our students, so please make sure you are prepared to put in the time and work needed.

Have a great holiday!!!

"The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those around us."

Counselor Corner -- Conversation With the Counselor

It has been a wonderful semester. I am currently busy getting students scheduled for the 3rd 9 weeks. Students returning to their home schools have all been notified via letter and phone. If you have questions or concerns regarding this transition do not hesitate to reach out. Also, we have students moving from full day to half day for a variety of reasons. Those students have been notified via letter and phone calls.

Thanks for all your support this semester.

Wishing you a safe and happy holiday!

Social Worker Corner-- Social Work Insight

From the Desk of the Social Worker………

This month as a social service worker my focus is on providing resources for the holiday season to some of our families that may be in need.

According to freefinancialhelp.net families are in need of additional assistance all year long however around the holiday seasons are the worst. You may be seeking employment, possibly laid off, downsized, terminated, your paid barely minimum wage, or your check may just be circumventing in a system somewhere causing a delay with you moving forward and having the “BEST” holiday possible. Click on the links below to assist yourself and immediate family, find help for a family member, friend or pay-it-forward and help someone you do not know. The Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, Lions Clubs International, Catholic Charities, and Make-A-Wish Foundation are resources to and for all. You may have a family member that is incarcerated; there is a prison fellowship link below as well. Reach out and ask questions!

Share with us one of your family Holiday memories. Send a note to school with your student!

Can't wait to hear about your memories!

Raptor Visitor Management System

Currently, every visitor who enters our building is asked to present a state of federal ID, such as a Driver’s License, and it is scanned into the Raptor System. Once the visitor has been approved, the office staff enters the reason, destination of the visit and the Raptor System will print a photo ID visitor badge. If for any reason a parent or guardian does not have a U.S. government-issued ID, the staff member can use any form of ID and manually enter the person’s name into the Raptor System. Beginning November 11, 2019, this will apply to our PreK-4 campuses as well.

A photo ID visitor badge is not required for those who visit our schools to drop off an item or pick-up paperwork at the front desk. Further, they may drop off their items(s) or remain in the waiting area until their student is available. Please be aware that current practices established in each building remain in effect.

The safety of our students is our highest priority. The Raptor Visitor Management System provides us with a consistent process of knowing who is in our buildings at all times as well as a tool to identify those individuals who may present a danger to our students and staff.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support towards enhancing school safety protocols in our district. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us here at Renaissance at 317-532-2996.
