2nd Grade Updates March 4th - March 8th
Dear South Ridge Families,
I cannot believe it is almost spring break. I am so excited for the longer days and warmer weather that is around the corner. This time of year students may need gentle reminders to get plenty of sleep, eat healthy snacks, and continue to work hard in 2nd grade! We are not done yet! Encourage your student to pay attention during lessons and to always give his or her best effort. My goal is for every student to learn as much as he or she can before 3rd grade. Encourage your child to be assertive with his or her needs. In 2nd grade that means that students ask questions and let a teacher know when help is needed. Let's continue to work hard together and finish the rest of 2nd grade strong!
Activist Unit: We are learning about how the actions and ides of people influence the world. Some people we have talked about include: Mary Anderson, Amelia Earhart, Steve Irwin, Jane Goodall, and Malala Yousafzai. These are just a few people who have changed the world through their actions or inventions. One thing you can do at home with your student is to research other activists. We are looking at the "big" events of their lives. At the end of this unit your child will create a timeline for his or her chosen activist. We will have what is called a living museum where your student can dress up as his or her activist and share facts with others. You are welcome to help your child research at home too!
**Conferences will be held March 12th and March 14th. A link will be sent to your email to sign up. If you do not receive the link to sign up; you have already received a sign up date and time from Ms. Martha. These conferences are student led group conferences. There may be more than one family in the classroom at a time. If you feel you need an individual conference that is more private please let me know.
Last Week
Snacks:
Please send your child with a healthy snack each day. We do have some extra snacks but sometimes we run out.
Water Bottle:
Many students are asking to leave the classroom to get water multiple times a day. Please send your child with a water bottle each day.
Reading: Continue to have your child read for at least 20 minutes each night. This can be in the car or wherever you have time to do some quick reads. Have conversations with your child about his or her reading. Research shows, students who read for at least 20 minutes a night have a much higher vocabulary and comprehension levels.
