Interested in learning more about becoming a Guest Teacher?
Did you know that many of our guest teachers at River Birch are current or former parents? We're truly blessed to have their support because we know they care about our children the same way that we do. It's been a great partnership over the years! As we enter the next few months, I'd like to grow our roster of guest teachers that support our school. If you're interested in learning more about becoming a guest teacher to support our school and get paid, please join me virtually for an informal question and answer Zoom session on Monday, November 23, at 6:30 p.m.
I look forward to meeting with you. Have a great weekend!

Habits to Home
Our current focus habit is Habit 5, Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. That means that it is better to listen first and talk second. By taking the time to listen to another person, you reach a higher level of communication. Young children find it difficult to understand another’s point of view. This habit is best taught by introducing listening as a skill that should be practiced. Learning to listen without interrupting and learning to listen with your ears, your eyes, and your heart will help children build a foundation for Habit 5.
Simply put, we have two ears and one mouth so that we can spend more time listening with the intent to understand.
Check out the children's books below that help us understand this habit! Do you have any of these books at home? Can you find them online? Read one or more of these books and have a family book talk about how the characters in the story did or did NOT use Habit 5.

A Few Reminders From the Clinic
Over the Counter Medications
Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Tums are available in the clinic. These can be given at the discretion of the school nurse to any student who has permission. Any additional over-the-counter medications (including cough drops) will be kept in the clinic and need to be supplied by the parent. All over-the-counter permission is provided via CareDox or written request from parent/guardian. All medication must be in the original unopened container and will be given according to the directions on the bottle and dosage needs that are appropriate for the age and weight of the student. If the dosage exceeds recommendations, permission must be granted from a primary care provider. All medications administered at school must be approved by the FDA, no homeopathic or herbal medications will be administered. Over-the-counter medications sent in to school will be kept until the end of the school year unless directed otherwise.
