The Weekly Hoot

September 16-22, 2013

Greetings All -

I am getting this out a little late this week (Sunday morning), and I apologize for that. Being gone three days in one week is craziness, and it doesn't feel like I have caught up yet!

Last Tuesday and Wednesday, I went to find out how I would be evaluated as a principal with the McRel system. It is very similar to the teacher evaluation system so I feel comfortable with that. On Friday, Kammi and I went to a meeting at Region 4 in Houston to discuss what we had to do as a campus since we were rated as "Needs Improvement" on the Student Growth indicator on the new accountability system. We learned a lot, and I will be sharing this with you on Wednesday at our faculty meeting.

Part of the process through the state since we were labeled "needs improvement" is to have a Professional Service Provider, or PSP, assigned to our campus. Ours is Carol Reid. I am very impressed with Carol, a former teacher, principal, and ESC 6 employee. Part of her assignment is to visit classrooms to see implementation of programs on the campus. She will be visiting quite a bit, interviewing teachers, etc... Her first visit is Tuesday, September 17th. Please do not do anything different than you normally do when she visits. I really want her to see where we are so she can help us grow.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend. I will see all of you in the morning! Week 4! Wow...it is going fast!

Soaring with you this year,

Marcy

Owl Wings This Week Go To...

Rachel Foy for making teaching relevant to her students. I stopped by one day last week and Rachel was teaching place value to the billions. She had it tied into top recording artists' record sales. The students were googling record sales, artists, etc... You talk about some engaged 5th graders! Great job Rachel! We are glad to have you on our team!

In the morning, I will be giving the TEMI to Kindergarten and then I will proceed through the day visiting classrooms, eating lunch in the cafeteria, and heading out to recess for a bit. I am excited about it! This is not a "walkthrough" or evaluation, so put me to work when I am in there! Make me part of the lesson, ask me to take a group, etc...
