Digital Citizenship and Resources being taught in CPS this year.
We are extremely excited to continue our 1:1 iPad initiative! In year two of what we are calling #beyondtherollout, we will have a strong focus on ensuring the iPad is understood and used as a learning tool, which includes being digitally literate and responsible. As part of this heightened focus, all middle school students will participate in a Digital Literacy and Responsibility on-line course before they are allowed to take their iPad home. Although iPads will be available during the day for instructional purposes early in the year, the goal is to have students take iPads home by September 9th after successful completion of the course. Examples of topics in the course include Digital Footprint, Internet Safety, Cyberbullying, On-line Research, Digital Time Management, STEM Careers, etc. There will be more information about this as we near the start of school. CPS and West are committed to providing Digital Citizenship systematic instruction as an important part of keeping students safe anytime they are on our devices. West Middle School will continue to support our second year of 1:1 and we will increase our focus on how we can use the iPads to improve student achievement.
