Impetigo - A highly contagious skin infection that causes red sores on the face, however it may appear anywhere on the body
Impetigo mainly affects children.
The main symptom is red sores that form around the nose and mouth. The sores rupture, ooze for a few days, then form a yellow-brown crust.
Antibiotics shorten the infection and can help prevent spread to others. Prescription medication is almost always prescribed for impetigo.
Spreads - By skin-to-skin contact (handshakes or hugs).
Students can return to school when they have been treated for at least 24 hours or lesions are cleared from oozing. Area should be covered to protect from spreading.
(Always contact your physician if you have any questions or concerns)
