The Pony Express
Fun in First Grade
Learning with Mrs. Ackenbom's Littles
Buddy says, "Happy Spring Break!"
Spring-tastic Rainbow to 10!
Before Spring break, we worked on making combinations of numbers and fact families. Next week we will start a new measurement unit. We are going to learn about standard and nonstandard forms of measurement. We will learn how to measure a horse using our hands as men and women did in the past and by a stick that measures by a standard hand - 4 inches. We will measure ourselves as if we are a horse and will discover that students in our class are ponies (14.2 hands or lower) and our teachers are horses (14.3 hands and higher). We will then use our hands, feet and rulers to measure objects around the school.
Spring is here! Way to Grow first graders!
Dance in the Dandelions - Discovering States of Matter!
We used magnifying glasses to explore matter all around us. We then demonstrated our findings on posters using teamwork in the Wonder Lounge!
Here we are using candy Smarties to demonstrate atoms in solids, liquids and gasses. Yum!
Check us out - cutting examples of solids, liquids and gasses from old Camp Friendship brochures.

Spring into April with Sing Sophie!
Mrs. Beck came to read Sing, Sophie to our class...we had a BLAST listening to this fun story! We enjoyed speaking in our southern "Sophie" voices for the rest of the afternoon. :}
Puddle Jumpers!
Here are some rainy day ideas when April showers bring May flowers!
Happy April Fools! We hope you enjoy your doughnut seeds! ;]

Crayons/Markers/Clorox Wipes
Room 2 needs your help! When the kiddos come back to school after Spring Break, please consider sending them with a new box of crayons/markers/clorox wipes. Most Mrs. Ackenbom's Littles are in need of new crayons (Crayola really does work best...Crazy Art crayons break the first time you use them!) and of course we can always use a little help with cleaning up. Thanks so much in advance for your help! :D
