A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BAME

Dear LPE Families,

I hope your families enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day weekend! As we begin this school week, our district continues to monitor the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian. We will keep our families informed of any changes, as we receive these updates. Please know that we will focus on maintaining a positive and calm learning environment, regardless of the weather. If your child expresses any concerns about Hurricane Dorian, consider using the resource found at the this link: https://www.nctsn.org/what-is-child-trauma/trauma-types/disasters/hurricane-resources

We are in the process of gathering feedback in response to our Curriculum Night programming. Below this welcome message please locate the Curriculum Night Parent Feedback Form. Thank you, in advance, for participating in our survey. Continuous improvement is always our goal!

Counselor's Corner

It’s been a great start to the 2019-20 school year! The counseling team has been busy having lunch with 1st - 5th grade students new to Laurel Park this year. These Newcomers’ Lunch Bunch Groups provide the opportunity for students to make new friends and learn more about Laurel Park, facilitating the adjustment to their new school. We are also beginning our social/emotional learning classroom lessons in grades 3-5 while also focusing on emotions and coping strategies in K-2. If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please feel free to contact your school counselor:

Garden Club Updates - Early September 2019

We have just a few more openings for a classroom garden lesson facilitator in the following classrooms:

Alford

Burcky

Marino

Tolp

Tweardy

Yothers

To ensure that every student at Laurel Park has the opportunity to engage with our school’s edible garden, “mini lessons” that align with science curriculum have recently been developed. The garden lesson facilitators will lead two lessons (approximately 30 minutes each) in the garden this school year. All volunteers are required to complete the WCPSS volunteer registration. This will be a very low time commitment and previous gardening experience is not required! A program overview will be provided and each lesson kit will include step-by-step instructions for the activity, discussion questions (with answers!) and all needed materials. We are excited to offer this new opportunity to engage with your child’s class!

Box Tops are Going Digital!

Hi Parents,

As some of you may already know, Box Tops is going digital. What does this mean you ask? You now will just need to download the Box Tops app and scan your receipt and your earnings are credited right away. No more clipping, having to keep up with them, and making sure to send in before they expire. You have 14 days to scan a receipt. As of right now if you use certain online retailers to shop you can email your receipt to receive credit for box tops products. There are more detailed directions and a list of retailers on the app. It is all very easy!! There is also a tab that lists all the products by category. Hopefully there are plans to be able to enter screen shots of online receipts for the times you may pay with your phone/app and don't actually get a paper receipt but until then be sure to use the email method of the retailers they have listed. There are still some products with box tops you can clip and send in. But once all those products are sold it will be completely digital. I will still be collecting and sending in any that are not expired so just keep checking on box tops products you use. The app is extremely easy to use and shows the schools earnings and how much you have earned. It also has ways to earn bonus box tops. Please continue to support that school with box tops earnings.
