PTA News- Parent Representative for SBDM

We need your help! We have a vacant position to fill for SBDM. The School Based Decision Making Council is the governing body for our school. It determines school policy for curriculum, staffing, discipline, scheduling, instructional practices, extracurricular activities, and other matters pertinent to the operation of the school. This is an excellent way to be involved, serve, and advocate.

The council is made up of 2 parents, 3 teachers, and 1 principal.

The open position is a 2-year term. Meetings are held once a month (about 1 hour) and are generally held at 4:30 pm on the last Tuesday of the month.

Qualifications: A parent council member shall be a parent, step-parent, foster parent or legal guardian of a student attending the school during the council member's term of office. A parent is ineligible if he/she is an employee or a relative of an employee (father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, son-in-law and daughter-in-law) of that school or for the district office, or a local school board member or the spouse of a school board member.

Nominations will be open today through 5/19 and with voting closing on 6/2.

If you would like to be considered, please fill out the nomination form and email it to Pledwards012@gmail.com by 5/19. You may fill the form out digitally or print and scan.

If you would like to nominate another parent, please send their name and email address to the above email.

Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) Next Week!

Our intermediate students will take the Kentucky Summative Assessments (KSA) to meet federal and state testing requirements. Students, grades 3, 4, and 5, will be tested in Reading and Math. 4th graders will also take a Science test. 5th graders will also take Social Studies and Writing tests. These assessments are Kentucky’s measure of student proficiency and progress on the state content standards. It is an online test that goes beyond multiple-choice questions to include extended response and technology-enhanced items for students to demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We will be testing the week of May 8. Please make sure your children arrive on time and avoid making appointments during this week. It is important to remember that assessments provide only one measure of student learning, but when combined with grades, classroom activities, unit quizzes and tests, and district-level assessments, the end-of-year assessments can help provide a more complete picture of a child’s abilities over the course of the school year and path toward academic success on these content standards.

Principal's Message

Dear Sandersville Families,

At the school level, we are in the unique position of finishing out the current year while preparing for the next! We are kicking off what will be our best May yet, but we have already started to create class lists, revise schedules, and plan activities for 2023-2024.

As a reminder, learning style requests for the following school year must be submitted in writing or emailed to the principal by early May. Student learning styles and other relevant information can be included, but teachers cannot be requested by name. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.

As always, if we can help or support your student in any way, call the office at 859- 381-4980 or email matt.marsh@fayette.kyschools.us.

Sincerely,

Mr. Marsh

Sandersville Principal
