USC Elementary REBEL Review
You Matter! Every Child - Every Day
March 2019
March seems to be coming in like a LION!! What a crazy month of weather we have had! Thank you all for your patience as we continue to work around all of the recent snow days. We know how difficult it can be for families when school is not in session due to the weather, but we want to be sure all students and staff are safe.
Remember we are having our "Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham" Breakfast on Friday, March 1st at 7:00-7:50 am. We hope you can join us!
We are also excited about a new event called "One School, One Book" that we will be doing the month of March. We will be having guest readers and many other fun activities tied to the book called The World According to Humphrey. Every family will be getting their very own copy of the book!! Please read the letters attached to this newsletter down below. We will be having a school wide kick-off on Monday, March 4th.
~Mrs. Magnuson
P.S. - please note the March breakfast/lunch menus are attached at the bottom of this newsletter.
Important Info...
Kindergarten Round-up
There will be no school for Kindergarten students on March 29th, because we have Kindergarten Round-Up on this day. If you have any questions please call your child’s teacher or Mrs. Magnuson.
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will be open the week of March 11-15th during school hours until 4:00 pm!! Please come check it out during evening conferences on Thursday, Mar. 14th too!!
Sixth Grade Science Fair
You are invited to come and see the 6th grade science fair projects on Wednesday, Mar. 20th from 12:30 – 3:30 pm in the wrestling room. They have worked very hard on their chosen topics and are excited to share them with you!
Spring Pictures
Spring Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, Mar. 12. Please make sure your son/daughter dresses nicely for their picture. All students will have their pictures taken, but are not required to purchase a picture package. Package information will be sent home with the picture proofs a couple of weeks after the pictures are taken.
Extra Clothes for K-2 Students
Please make sure your child has an extra set of clothes in their locker. This is the time of year when students are playing in the snow and they get wet clothing. Having that extra set of clothes makes the afternoons much more comfortable for them. Thanks!
Cherrydale Fundraiser Limo Rides - Rescheduled
Due to the weather on Feb. 5th and 15th , we had to cancel our Limo rides on those days. We will be re-scheduling for a new date in the spring. Stay tuned!

One School, One Book ~ The World According To Humphrey
Our school is about to take part in a special, community wide shared reading event. Every family will receive a copy of the same book – The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney – and will be asked to read it together at home over the next few weeks. I am personally asking you to make the time so that your family can participate in this special activity.
Reading aloud at home is valuable because it better prepares your child to be an effective reader, and it is also a fun, worthwhile family activity. With this program, we aim to build a Community of Readers at our school. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, even administrative staff – will all be following along together. We hope you will participate with us by reading with your child!!
Please read the attached information letters to learn more details!!
School on April 18 and April 22
Due to the snow days we had on Feb. 7th and 12th, we will now make up those days on Thursday, April 18th and Monday, April 22.
Jumping For A Great Cause
Thank you to everyone that participated in our Jump Rope For Heart event!! It was another successful day and we raised over $2,300 for the American Heart Association! Awesome Job USC Rebels!!!

Growth Mindsets - The 7 Mindsets - 100% Accountable
For the month of March we will be focusing on the mindset called "100% Accountable". The 100% Accountable mindset teaches the importance of being responsible for our own happiness and success. Being 100% Accountable means deciding not to be victims of the past and recognizing that the future is not predetermined, so our lives are what we choose in the present moment and each one moving forward. In these lessons, we help students focus on recognizing our fears and excuses. This mindset is about the importance of breaking down barriers and taking responsibility for our thoughts and actions. It also allows us to free our minds and focus our energy on taking the critical steps towards our goals.
