Rain Garden with Mrs. Egorov's 4th Grade

Rossi 4th graders in Room A1 met with representatives from The American Littoral Society to do a Fall Rain Garden planting and cleanup. The students worked hard, learned how rain gardens work and their purpose, and found monarch caterpillars, ladybugs, and many other beautiful creatures in the native plants.

We are having a great time kicking off the year in Kindergarten!

We are starting our new phonics program, Fundations. If you hear your child mention the sky line, plane line, grass line and worm line - that is Fundations!

In math, we are beginning to learn to write, count and numbers 0-5. We are learning about how we identify ourselves and what makes us special and identifying feelings in Social Studies. Science is all about forces of motion and push and pull. We will even do some experiments!

1st Grade

First grade is off to a fantastic start! Our students participated in many getting to know you activities to build a strong, caring classroom community. We've been busy learning classroom routines and procedures. We also learned some addition strategies using many hands on activities. We have read many great stories about building friendships and being kind to each other. Looking forward to a great year!

2nd Grade

Second grade staff was so excited to welcome their students in September! They are working hard to build positive classroom communities through team building activities, discussing classroom procedures and expectations.

During reading and language arts students are enjoying read alouds and practicing the routines in our new phonics program, Fundations. Students can tell you about our new Fundations classroom helpers, Mama Echo and Baby Echo.

Students are starting off the year with review and place value for math.

They will have science and social studies daily this year. Science activities this month included the 5 senses marshmallow activity and the states of matter experiment.

In social studies students are diving right into their new social studies books and are enjoying lessons for Hispanic Heritage Month.

Students and staff are off to a great start in 2nd grade and are looking forward to a great year.

3rd Grade

Third grade has had a wonderful start to their new school year. We are busy making new friends and learning all that third grade brings. In social studies, we started learning about map skills. In science, we are learning about forces. In math, we are reviewing addition and subtraction facts, but we will soon be beginning multiplication. We are off to a great start of the year and cannot wait to see what it brings!!

4th Grade

Rossi 4th Graders started the year with lots of interesting "Getting to Know You "activities. They are now doing many fun experiments about energy in Science! They are also learning place value in Math and reading "Because of Winn Dixie" in Language Arts. Room A1 did some Fall planting and maintenance in the Rossi Rain Garden. We LOVE being back in school!

5th Grade

Fifth Grade is fabulous! We are switching classes to prepare us for middle school. We have learned what is expected of us and classroom procedures. In Social Studies we have finished Geography and Map Skills, and are beginning the study of Native Americans. This will tie into the Language Arts novel and read-aloud called, Tucket's Travels. Fifth graders are learning to use their schema when reading and they are writing with description. In math, students are extending their knowledge of place value to the hundred millions and working with powers of ten. For science, we are learning the Scientific Method and will be starting to study matter.
