## What Fun!

Monday-In math we read, The Shape of Things by Dayle Ann Dodds. We then created our own shape picture using one shape and then turning it into something else. We have everything from a snowman to boats. We also started our Guided Reading Groups again. Students are focusing on concept of word, fluency, and comprehension. Keep practicing sight words at home. We also completed a fun word hunt.

Tuesday-Happy Groundhog's Day! We had a fun day learning all about the groundhog, its home, and shadows. Students visited Brain Pop Jr. to learn all about light and shadows. Also, please check out the fun shadow video below. The students loved watching it! During our book buddy time, we paired up making thumbprint groundhogs. We love our book buddy time and these school community building experiences. This week is National School Counseling week. As a class, we celebrated our counselors by writing notes of thanks.

Wednesday-Global Play Day! Our class and school participated in Global Play Day. Students created groundhogs and groundhog homes using Keva Planks. We also played games like Candy Land and Memory. Please check out the fun pictures below! We also read books about 3D shapes for math. Students completed the This Is Me in February. Our ideas consisted of Valentine's Day fun to playing in the snow.

Thursday-In math, we completed a groundhog measuring activity. Students had to compare objects that were either longer or shorter than a groundhog. We also completed a shape exploration where students had to sort 2D and 3D shapes. During literacy, we are continuing to practice our fluency and understanding what we are reading. Thank you for your continued support at home.

Friday-Non-fiction Friday! We have been discussing the differences between fiction and non-fiction. Please ask your child to tell you the difference. For our Let's Find Out, we continued to learn about shadows. See if your child can tell you different sources of light. Feel free to check out the Let's Find Out online resources. In math, we are gearing up for the 100th day of school on Monday! We practiced counting by 10's to 100. We practiced counting forward and backward. Then, we sorted our math manipulatives into groups of ten.
