Dear Vista Oaks Community,
It is with great sadness that I write this letter to inform you of the loss of one of our high school students over the weekend following a battle with pneumonia. Our condolences and thoughts go out to the family and friends of our student.
A young person’s death is always tragic, and a sudden loss like this can have a profound effect on surviving students. It is important that we recognize this loss and offer help. This is a sensitive issue for children and teenagers, and we suggest that you talk with your children about their feelings. If you would like more information and suggestions for how to address grief with your child, please click here.
During this time, as our school community processes through this tragedy and copes with grief, we will offer support services for our students and staff. The school has arranged to have mental health counselors available to talk with students about normal responses to grief. Students who need additional support are encouraged to contact their teacher.
We are saddened by the loss to our school community and I know you will join me in sending our heartfelt sympathy to the family. Again, please do not hesitate to contact the school at (209) 365-4060 if you have any concerns or questions.
Respectfully,
Joy Groen
Executive Director
