Gerth's Gossip

This Week in Fourth Grade
We had a fantastic time at the museum and state house today! We missed a couple of our buddies from Room 17 and hope they feel better quickly! Thank you to all the wonderful chaperones who joined us for this fun field trip! I am so proud of the great listening and behavior. If you've never been, the State House and State Museum are both beautiful places to visit and learn. A special thanks to Mrs. Ayers, Mrs. Goodspeed, Mrs. Hopwood, Mrs. McKee and Mrs. Phillips for going with us today!
I will add pictures next week and will be tweeting several out of the field trip, but I must rush away today to get ready for a weekend of travel for my daughter's cheer team now. Have a super weekend everyone and I can't wait to hear about the 3 v 3 basketball tourney. I just watched the teachers play their exhibition game and missed joining in, but knew I had to get away quickly so didn't join the team this time. Love that I have so many kids interested in doing this great activity.

Literacy In Action
- This week we continued with our Reach Unit 7. We have been talking about plot, synthesizing, and compare and contrast. We read the story "The Moon Over Star" by Dianna Hutts Aston, as a class this week and worked on determining the plot of the story, finding some cause and effect relationships, making and confirming predictions and even looking at figurative language.
- We have also continued working with adverbs this week!
- We have enjoyed researching and writing about important people, events, and places in Indiana this week. We will continue to work on our informational pieces next week as well.
Math
Fourth grade:
- We finished Chapter 10 this week in math.
Next week we will be starting Chapter 11. This unit focuses on 3-D shapes, weight, volume, and capacity
Fifth grade:
Fifth grade is continuing their work with Chapter 10.
- This chapter focuses on algebra.
Indiana History
- This week we started Chapter 3. The big question for that chapter is: How does the past shape our present and future?
- The students are enjoying this chapter and learning about some of the amazing people from our past that have help to influence us today!
- We've also used some technology to Amplify our social studies work with Kahoot and interactive web-based tool!
Students also have accounts for Pearson Realize online as well as text/workbooks. They have their log in information taped inside their assignment notebooks for the online tools including an online text. The easiest way to get there is from Smoky Row website and type Pearson in the search! I think for ipads an app can also be installed for easier use.
SRE's Book Fair Was a Huge Success
Thank you to all of the volunteers that help Mrs. Towle with this big and amazing undertaking! The students love having the Book Fair at SRE and as a teacher I sure love their excitement for new books. Many also donated some to our classroom bookshelf. Thank you for your generosity and having such thoughtful children!
