Assistive Technology Snippet

Speech Rec./Word Prediction Software & Wands and Sticks

My experience with Assistive Technology:

Assistive technology has proven to be a very useful and necessary tool in my classroom. Although I have never had anyone who could not use their voice to communicate, I have had many students who struggle with writing and vision issues. We have used Alpha-Smarts, word prediction software, Write Out Loud, and magnifying devices. It works fantastic! The only downfall is that everything except the Alpha Smart has to be utilized in the resource room. It can be frustrating for students to have to leave the room to complete an assignment and print it off only from the resource room. I believe that is something we should look into as a district.
