Tanana Family Newsletter
Week of August 24-August 28, 2020
A successful first week of school . . . and a look ahead into this week.
First, let me begin this issue by thanking you and your child for working so hard to connect and participate in our two day orientation! The Tanana staff was thrilled to see smiling faces on their zoom screens and student comments ranged from, "I'm looking forward to learning this way, I think it's going to be fun!" to "I really miss being inside the school and wish we were there." From a teaching perspective, the days are fast paced and rewarding! Teachers started two weeks prior to our first day with students in "teacher boot camp" to design and launch Virtual Tanana!
Starting Monday, August 24, 2020 all students will be following the regular remote learning schedule which is published below for quick reference. I've also included a link to our YouTube channel tutorials detailing how to connect to Virtual Tanana and an overview of our Remote Learning Schedule. All students, regardless of elective are required to log-in to Advisory at 11:00 am and Zoom with their Advisory teacher. This time is used to share school wide announcements, set personal learning goals, reflect on personal growth, and to support social emotional development. Starting at 11:30, Core Academic instruction will start immediately following advisory, where students will receive direct instruction for a minimum of 20 minutes from each of their core teachers. All students received an email on Friday to their school gmail account directing them to which core teacher of their house to report to at 11:30 via Zoom. For example, posted on the Yellow House Google Classroom under “classwork” is a list of schedules sorted out by the first letter of the student’s last name. When the student clicks on the tab with their last initial, the schedule will appear. The student simply needs to click on the name of the teacher the schedule says they should be zooming with!
In closing, it was an extremely successful first two days of virtual classes, we were able to connect with so many of you! As we look ahead to next week, we will delve into academics! We appreciate your patience and support as everyone in our community navigates these unprecedented times. At any time, if you or your child need help, please reach out by calling the main office, 907-452-8145, the phone lines are staffed daily from 8:30-4:30 and we are here to help!
