Coach’s Message

Star’s Football Family

Happy Mother's Day to the mom's across our entire program. I want to thank Kristen Tosaw and Mary Ellen Shannon for organizing our Mom's day letter writing event on Friday morning. I loved to see our players taking the time to write a letter of gratitude for either their mom or someone who has been a positive influence on them.

Mother's Day is a chance to celebrate the wonderful women who have impacted us so immensely. In my life, I have been very fortunate to be surrounded by strong women. My Nonna (grandmother) Anna, is probably the toughest woman I know. Growing up in Italy, her father passed when she was young and she came to the US to start a new life with my Mom. With my grandfather being out of the country working she was thrown into a new country alone, not speaking the language and having little education. Through sheer grit and perseverance, she made a life where there was none. She created opportunities for future generations to embrace. She sacrificed so much to ensure a better life for people she may never even meet. She planted a tree in which she will never get to enjoy the shade, that is true leadership.

My Mom, Angela is my rock. Needless to say, I was not always the easiest kid to live with. I got in my fair share of trouble. Let's just say I was a very curious little boy. Through it all, she has been my biggest fan. I can honestly say I do not think she and my dad have ever missed a sporting event I was in. From the freezing baseball games to 10 years of Friday Night Lights, I can always look for them in the stands and see their smiling faces. (note they are not always smiling.) It has been her unconditional love and compassion that I have tried to infuse into our program at North. I can honestly say much of the program values are based on the values that I was raised on. I would not be where I am today without my Mom.

I would be remiss and probably soon to be divorced if I did not mention my beautiful wife Rebecca. I can not really put into words just how special of a person my wife is. She has given me a life that I could only have dreamt of. Obviously, she cannot see well because a woman this beautiful should not be with a guy like me. Becky has been through the good and the bad. She has celebrated the championship seasons and had to deal with me after the overtime losses. She is a flat-out warrior. This girl gave birth to twins 47 minutes apart!!! As a mother, I can honestly say that I am floored at the genuine goodness she instills into our daughters Morgan and Isla. They are a reflection of everything pure about their relationship with their Mommy. Simply put, it is a privilege to be married to her and I am just grateful for her love, support, and friendship. She is my best friend and soulmate.

I hope you have had a chance to enjoy those close to you this weekend. For those who may have lost a mother, my heart goes out to you. There is nothing that can replace that loss. However, the memories we have and the feelings they gave us are signs of their eternal love.

Elite Leader

Week 9 Carson Leeper

Congratulations to Carson on earning this week's Elite Leader Belt! Carson is a mainstay in the weight room. He has blossomed during this spring session and gained a lot of quality strength and speed. Carson is a positive influence on his teammates and has become one of my favorite players to check in on and spend some time with during a lifting session. He is a true Iron Star and we are lucky to have him in the program.
