PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
August 18, 2023
Dear PK8 Families,
Wow, what a fantastic start to the 2023-2024 school year! As you heard me mention last night, it has been wonderful seeing our students return to a new year of learning. The halls have been abuzz with students greeting new and returning friends, talking about their new teachers, and sharing their summer experiences. Even though it is the beginning of a new year, it also feels in many ways as if summer never happened. Students have quickly adapted to their new rooms, and our teachers have quickly resumed teaching.
Our Back To School BBQ was a great time for families and staff to reconnect with each other. We served over 250 hot dogs, so we had an excellent turn out! Mother Nature certainly cooperated as the clouds rolled in just in time for event and the rain held off. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and an especially big thank you to our PPO volunteers that organized the event.
Our 7th/8th grade football and volleyball teams have started their practices, and their first games are next week. Home games are a great way for all families to show their Eagle Pride! Come join us and cheer on our young student athletes!
Thank you again for your continued support of Paonia K-8 School! Here's to our continued success this year!
When the school receives non-school provided extracurricular activities, we will put a link to a shared google folder containing program information at the bottom of our weekly Peek at the Week. Parents may choose which fliers they would like to review.
Don't forget to use our website and PPO page as a resource for information: pk8.deltaschools.com or https://www.facebook.com/pk8.ppo
Sincerely,
Sam Cox

This communication is centered on the 6Ps (Prompt, Prepared, Polite, Positive Mental Attitude, Participate, and Produce) and 5As (Appropriate Body Language, Appropriate Eye Contact, Appropriate Feedback, Ask Clarifying Questions, and Actively Engaged). The 6Ps are the behaviors we expect, and the 5As are the “attending” skills we want to see in the classroom.
Thank you to Mrs. Baldwin and our previous PK-8 students for creating this video to describe the DISCOVERY program.

SCHOOL BREAKFAST AND LUNCH 2023-2024
For this school year, 2023-2024, Delta County School District will be providing FREE breakfast and lunch to ALL students! This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to enjoy nutritious meals prepared locally by our kitchen staff using a mix of local and state-provided meats, vegetables, and fruit.
Even though the breakfast and lunch program is free this year, it is still critically important that families complete a Family Economic Data Survey. Because of our school's economic status, parents are encouraged to complete this form instead of the Free and Reduced Lunch Application Form. The data from this survey is used to determine the Federal Title I funding for our school and district.
Title I funding provides staffing for our reading and math intervention teachers, childcare for PPO meetings, and other student supports. When we do not receive adequate Title I funds, we have to lean on PPO fundraising and local building funds to fill the gap.
PLEASE download and fill out the Family Economic Data Survey at this link. The forms may be returned to PK8. You may also pick up a paper copy of this form at the school office.

Even if you do not plan to eat school lunch, please complete the survey so that we have accurate data reported for federal funding.
