BRIGHT Summer Reader Program

I'm so proud of our summer readers, this year over 120 students turned in their reading logs. The top readers were:

K- Giada Barboza

1- Vicente Lopez

2- Andres de la Rosa

3- Keyra Cantu

4- Olivia Lopez

5- Franky Santoy

Winners were treated to a special celebration at the Oso Dome in September. All students who turned in their reading log came to a pizza party at school and received a prize.

We are so excited to be the recipients of the 2015-2016 Laura Bush grant in the amount of $7,000 for our library. Click here to see the news article about our grant. When our new books arrive we will be having a big celebration. Keep an eye out for news about the upcoming event.

Author Visit: Lous Anders meets our 5th graders

International Dot Day

Author Visit: Carolyn Flores meets our Kinder and 1st graders

Students in Kinder/ 1st grade read Carolyn's book Canta, Rana, Canta in preparation of the author visit. Mrs. Flores, then showed the writers process and demonstrated how to illustrate a book. It was so much fun seeing the author get excited about her craft and inspire our students to become writers no matter their age. I especially loved that she showed her very first book when she wrote when she was 6 years old!

Our librarian, Amy Marquez, featured on the cover of the Texas Library Journal

What a great honor to have our librarian, Amy Marquez, on the cover of the Texas Library Journal for the fall 2015 edition! Mrs. Marquez was chosen for the cover and article based on a submission she made about an innovative library program she has at her library called the "Living History Museum." This journal has a readership of over 7,000 professional librarians across the state of Texas.

Amy Marquez, Librarian

This is my 15th year in education. I'm passionate about inspiring students to be readers and making our library a welcoming retreat for all learners. I am a 2015-2016 Laura Bush Foundation grant recipient, on the Renaissance National Honor Roll, finalist for the South Texas Literacy Coalition Excellence in Libraries Award 2014, and featured in on the cover of the Texas Library Journal Fall 2015.

"Libraries are exciting places because learning comes to life when students are inspired to explore."
