Environmental Science Invasive Species Project

Have you ever heard of a Tamarisk? What about a Zebra Mussel? Ms. Pleasant's Environmental Science students are learning about these invasive species, and they are applying what they know through class and research to prepare a mock horror film, "mock"-umentary, or song. Ms. Pleasant invited Mrs. LeJeune to her classes in order to teach the students how to use Windows Live MovieMaker and tips & tricks for the project.

SLCHS Skyping!

The SLCHS Keepers of the Books Club skyped with author, Elizabeth Wein, before the Christmas holidays. They read her book, Code Name Verity, which is on the Louisiana Teen Readers' Choice list. She lives in Scotland, and it was a great experience to get to ask her questions about the book and writing.

Mrs. Brunot's English III AP class read the book, Thank you for Arguing: What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson Can Teach Us About the Art of Persuasion by Jay Heinrichs. Mrs. Brunot contacted Mr. Heinrich he offered to skype with her classes! On January 16th, he skyped with both AP classes. We are so blessed to have the technology available to make this possible. Mr. Heinrich talked for about 2 minutes and then the students led the discussion by asking great questions. He commented on how organized and brilliant they were.

Stay tuned for more Skyping news because more teachers will probably start utilizing it in class. Mrs. LeJeune had a training on Skype and using Skype EDU, which was attended by some Geography teachers and Foreign Language teachers.

Yearbook editors Alexis Manuel and Lizzie Portie use Google Forms to create a student survey.

The survey has been sent to all St. Louis students by email. One student who submits a completed survey by Jan. 29 will be randomly selected to receive a Raising Cane’s gift card. The results of the survey will be published in the 2015 Spectre: Where Do We Go from Here? and students may reserve a copy of the book at Students may contact the yearbook sponsor, Mrs. Core, at with any questions or concerns.
