Reflections from 10-3-16
Over the last six weeks of school, administrators has visited over 140 classrooms to access what students were learning. During our walk-throughs the commonalities we saw were:
- Teachers building relationships with students.
- Teachers accommodating the needs of struggling learners.
- Students learning skills to transition to independent living (i.e. cooking, goal setting, grooming, financial planning).
- Students being creative in projects to demonstrate their understanding in a way that was meaningful to them.
- Students working collaboratively in small groups.
- Students given choice in selecting books to read.
Students giving the opportunity to voice opinion and defend their thoughts.
Students solving equations through group work.
Students learning new anatomical vocabulary.
Students enjoying poetry and writing for pleasure.
As we reflect back to the first six weeks, think about the areas that you need to enhance to help students reach their full potential. This past week I listened to a series on courage and the takeaways that I learned were:
- It takes courage to be successful, because successful people don't go with the status quo.
- It is easy to be mediocre, but exceptional people are courageous.
- Courageous people have the heart and strength to do what they have been called to do.
Indeed, the 2016-2017 school year has started well. Let's continue shinning as we incorporate practices to help all students succeed!
This is your Moment to Shine!
