How did the 1970s rock influence the music industry of today?
Rock music of the 1970s made the inclusion of women in music more acceptable which i why now there are hundreds of female artists. At today's concerts and shows, the showmanship and performances are also influenced by the artists of the 1970s. Since the 1970s the number of singer-songwriters has also increased.
Rock Music
In the 1970s, bands began to increase in size in more than one way. Prior to the 70s drums were mostly a piece set however with the increase of rock music the amount of drum pieces in a set increased to 6 to to 12. This increase in the drum set lead to an increase in the amount of instruments and members in a band.
1970s Rock vs 1970s Country
Although both country and rock music from the 70s created new genres of music still listened to today they have many differences. Country music in 1970s and until now have a root in Nashville, Tennessee due to a majority of artists from the south. Because of the geographical location of country music it is easy to infer what type of music an artist is from through the location of their start.
How did rock stay the same and change?
Rock music is still very popular in the 21st century but have adapted to the likes of the time. To keep up with the digital age following the 1970s, the music industry began to have 24/7 marketing through music videos. Due to the evolving ways of marketing, rock music or the 1970s can still be heard today in movie soundtracks.
Sweet Home Alabama made southern rock a major trend in the late 1970s. It also influenced an array of covers in the following years.
Without The Runaways many female artists like Avril Lavigne and P!nk would have never considered a music career. Rock of the 1970s made it okay for women to be involved in music.
KISS influenced rock music with commercial gimmicks, promotionals, and showmanship.
The Eagles made it safe for multiple singer-songwriters to be in a successful band as well as proved that a rock band could have a singing drummer.
Journey focused on business as well as art by putting earnings back into stage, sound, and lighting equipment. They also purchased their own trucks and transportation gear; and providing their label with finished records, artwork, and merchandising material. Journey also made one of the first promotional deals by teaming with Budweiser.
