Reading Program at Pleasanton Jr/Sr High School
We purchased a subscription to Accelerated Reader. The English teacher works with each student to set reading goals based on previous reading scores. Once the student reads the book, they take a test over the book on AR. Each quiz earns the student points. Once the student and class reaches a goal, they get a prize such as a pizza party, bowling party, etc. The classes are very competitive to reach their goal to win the prizes!
Goodreads is also used with students to discover new books others are reading and share their book reviews. PHS students are in their own community, and can share publicly with the world, or lock their account to only share with the PHS groups.
Accelerated Reader and Goodreads can be downloaded as apps to their mobile devices.
