5th Grade News
Welcome Back to School
Our 5th graders are so excited to be starting their final year at LDS. We have been very busy choosing instruments to play, becoming peer leaders and safety patrol monitors. We are enjoying our flexible seating and excited about exploring Learning Studios where we will have the opportunity to work with various students and teachers across the grade level. Our wallets are filling up with money as we continue our Classroom Economy program. Jobs have been filled and we are working daily to develop an understanding of financial literacy.
As mathematicians, we have been exploring multiplication strategies and applying our knowledge through investigations of volume and surface area. We also have been practicing using our math vocabulary as we articulated our thinking in our first math forums! Whether we are solving problems with pencil and paper, on the floor making models with cubes or participating in a workplace activity, we are highly engaged in mathematical thinking and conversations daily and loving it!!
As readers and writers we are diving into our Narrative unit of study. We are setting goals, learning strategies, reading books, and sharing our thoughts with our peers. Our #Classroombookaday is off to a great start. SO many amazing books have been read and fantastic conversations are taking place. In the upcoming weeks we will have a “Book Tasting” to kick off our literature circles.
During Science we are exploring Earth Systems. From building terrariums to deep conversations about the various spheres, 5th graders are engaged and excited about each new station they delve into.
There are many exciting things happening in 5th grade, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us!
