The GATE Gazette
Friday September 6, 2019
Welcome Back!
It was such an honor to spend this short week with your child(ren)! I have enjoyed every minute of learning new names, getting to know their favorite foods at lunch, what they did this summer, and experiencing their sheer love of learning in the classroom.
This past week, we spent time getting to know each other and our new school. Today we had our very first school-wide assembly! During this assembly the students learned about the Positivity Project (P2), why it's an important part of our curriculum, and how we will be learning about the different character strengths this year. (Picture below) Ask your child about it tonight!
This coming week will be a full one! We have our curriculum night on September 10th from 6-7:15. During this time you will get a chance to learn more about our unique curriculum, school procedures and more. I hope you have a chance to come!
Sincerely,
Kate Martin, Principal

Hearing and Vision Screenings Provided in Oakland County Schools
Hearing and vision screenings are required by Michigan Law (The Public Health Code 368 of 1978) and are provided annually in Oakland County schools by Oakland County Health Division (OCHD) at no cost. Screenings help identify vision and hearing difficulties that can affect a child’s school performance, speech and language skills and social development. OCHD Public Health Technicians do not diagnose any conditions but can make parents/guardians aware if a child may need further follow-up from a doctor.
Vision screening occurs in pre-school, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grades
Hearing screening occurs in pre-school, kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grades
Please ensure your student is in attendance on screening days. For more information: visit www.oakgov.com/health , call OCHD’s Hearing and Vision program at 248-424-7070, or contact your child’s school.
Arrival and Dismissal
Remember that one of the many important aspects of our building is that since we only have one secretary that is in the Meadows front/main office, our GATE entrance doors will be locked during school hours. This means that if parents wish to enter the building for any reason, including but not limited to walking a student to class, volunteering, bringing in a tardy student, or picking up a student early, they must go to the Meadows front/main office. This means you would enter the front Meadows parking lot off of Auburn Road. There may be special exceptions for special events such as classroom parties or the Fun Run, however it will be communicated to you if you can enter through our GATE entrance on those days.
Thank You!
I also want to say thank you to everyone who donated items on the PTO Wish List! I know that our PTO board members are thrilled because it was completely cleared out by last week. We are so humbled by your support!
