Mustang News
December 13, 2021
Dear Alamo Families,
We are very PROUD of our Mustangs!!!
- Student Council raised approximately $1,200, $450 above the goal of $750, for our sister school, Dover Elementary. Congratulations! We want to thank our students for earning their donations.
- There's a new club on campus - it's the Hippy Club. Founders Quinn (president) and co-vice presidents Sophia and Owen invite 3, 4, and 5th graders to join. These three 5th graders took the initiative to start the club. The club will learn about our planet and how we can help our environment. A short informational presentation will be on Monday, 12/20, at the end of lunch. Meetings are twice a month on Tuesdays during lunch, with the first one on January 18.
Additionally, last week we enjoyed an eating contest and some shopping!
- The Run for Education fun continued. Since the competition for achieving 150 registrants benchmark was ACHIEVED and surpassed at 174 total (54% of our student/staff population at Alamo School), the staff agreed to a "hands-on" eating contest last Tuesday.
- Our traditional Holiday Shop was a huge success last Thursday. Thank you to Ms. Gilad, parent volunteers, student vendors, and staff for their hard work. It was a delight to see students shopping for their families. The student vendors made terrific products to sell.
See you at our Principal Chat on Wednesday to update you on many topics: curriculum, new COVID 19 protocols, and construction. Questions submitted will be addressed.
Warmly,
Principal Salazar

Ms. Border, Mr. Cherry, and Ms. Pavon had a pie-eating tiebreaker. MR. CHERRY WAS THE CHAMPION!
We celebrated our top student fundraisers with medals at the end of the feast.
Thank you, Ms. Petersen, for your help.

PTA
Thank you to all families who attended the Holiday Shop. It was a HUGE success!!!! Collectively you helped the PTA raise over $2600 dollars which help us pay for PTA-sponsored programs at the school. A special thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this happen: the gift wrappers, the set-up crew, the tear-down crew, and all the parents who donated items. A special shout out to Tara Gilad, who planned the event from start to finish, to Hilarie Bako for the hot chocolate table and to the Y staff who served up the yumminess. Thank you also Mrs. Angeletopoulos, Mrs. Flores and Principal Salazar for volunteering your time at the event. We appreciate your support of Alamo School PTA.
Our school spirit wear store is open! Back by popular demand, you can purchase all things Alamo Nation at www.spirithero.com search Alamo.
Our Principal Chat is Wednesday, December 15 at 6:30pm. Join us in welcoming Principal Salazar back to school! Register in advance for this meeting HERE. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Remember to enter any questions you may have for our chat HERE. We've received some excellent questions.
Would you like a sneak peek at the Winter Concert?? Come and help with set-up and take-down on 12/17 from 12-1:30 and you will be able to watch the show with the students that day! Please email nicolerocca@gmail.com if you're interested in helping out.
Would you or anyone you know like to help recruit for our 2022/23 PTA Board? Join our nominating committee for next year’s executive board positions. There are many opportunities available and we need all of your involvement in order to keep amazing events like Holiday Shop, Run for Education, Talent Show, and so many more going next year. Joining the nominating committee is a good way to get to know the process and bylaws under which our PTA functions, and get to know all of us. Additionally, you can have a voice in shaping the future of our PTA and ensuring an inclusive and equitable PTA board that represents all of our Alamo community. Only one zoom meeting and some networking are required. Reach out to michesinnott@gmail.com or toridecoite@gmail.com if you're interested.
PTA GENERAL ASSOCIATION MEETING: January 27th, 8:30-9:30 @ Alamo School Amphitheatre. Come vote on the nominating committee and find out more about all of the things that the PTA does for Alamo School.
Thank you-
Michelle Petersen and Nicole Rocca

Donation and sponsorship opportunities: Looking for a last-minute 2021 tax deduction?

The Online Silent Auction is scheduled for March 7th-15th. Saturday, May 21, 2022, marks our largest fundraising event of the year, with the “Bocce, Bubbles, and BBQ” at Blackhawk Country Club. This event will include a silent auction, live auction, and sponsorship opportunities. We are requesting your help to secure items for our auctions and business sponsorships.
DONATION OPPORTUNITIES: (Your donations may be tax-deductible to the full extent of the law).
We are looking for the following types of donations for our silent and live auctions:

Celebrity or Athlete Meet & Greets
Rounds of Golf
Gift Baskets

Your Ed Fund Dollars at Work! We are busy taking photos of many of our staff members who are supported by your donations to the Ed Fund. Since parent access to campus is still quite limited, many of these individuals’ efforts are not as visible as in the past, but they are working harder than ever! This week we are highlighting Mrs. Raaum, our fabulous music and chorus instructor.

Mrs. Raaum
Mrs. Raaum is full of energy with a (masked) smile on her face first thing on Thursday mornings for chorus rehearsals. Every student receives 40 minutes a week of music instruction and is introduced to a variety of instruments, musical styles and musicians during their time at Alamo. Recently, the 2-5th graders learned a tambourine routine to Hanukkah O Hanukkah. 5th graders reviewed chords and played The Best Day of My Life and the Dreydl Song on the ukulele. 2-5th graders are learning Jingle Bells on the Orff instruments.
If you have not yet experienced an Alamo music concert or seen the chorus in action, be sure to attend the Winter Concert on Friday, December 17th!!
