Valuable Contributions
I am creating a social studies curriculum focused on people who have made valuable contributions to our society. I want these people to represent a variety of ethnic , gender and social groupings. I would love your input!!
The idea behind this is not memorizing facts but internalizing 'their are people like me that make a difference in my World'.
Here are my ideas thus far.
Barack Obama - First African American President
Ruby Bridges - First African American to attend an all white school
Mae Jamison - First Female African American astronaut
Severo Ochoa - Latino Nobel Prize Winner
Maria Tall Chief - Native American founder of the Chicago City Ballet
Ghandi - Anti-War Activist
Satyendra Nath Bose - Indian physicist
Leonardo Divinci & Pablo Picaso- artist
Jonathan Green - present Gullah artist (my favorite)
Billy Holiday, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong - jazz musicians
The Wright Brothers - first in flight
