by Rhino Ruth, a very concerned writer

Good day! I am Rhino Ruth, a native Javan Rhino. I am a professional writer and have decided to make a blog, letting my readers see my perspective and where my concerns come from! Enjoy!

ATTENTION! There is a warning to go out to all those Javan Rhinos! Read my iWittnesses!

April 15, 2010

Today, my fellow executive, a Javan Rhino was killed in Vietnam's Cat Tien National Park, being poached for his horn. What is this world coming to! I am only 10 ft long, 5 ft tall, 4,000 pounds, so in my case not THAT big. We don't bother you humans so why intern do you bother us?

This morning, a Tsunami came down on all the Javan Rhinos homes. In the Tropical Forests, we can be found in low lying areas where it is moist, and pretty vegetationally dense. Unfortunately, this disaster may affect the continues decreasing population.

We are making little progress from the previous natural disaster. I had to move my office to another area with more food supplies. Did you know that the Javan Rhino once roamed freely across the majority of Asia? Sadly, they are now only located in preserves in Indonesia and Vietnam, where I am.

Boy am I hungry. Sorry I haven't written in a while. These new animals came prancing in one day and decide to invade, destroying even MORE of our food. The office is getting pretty lonely, but I hope they are all out on vacation, enjoying splendid views. For some reasons I feel like they aren't...

Even though I don't have any predators, I feel like I could be killed. My whole life is disappearing before my eyes. Help me. I'm one of the only ones left in the forest. The other ones have bid me goodbye, leaving in search of a improved place. My grey coloring has seemed to only get more grey and the skin folds which make me look like a warrior now are droopy, revealing the fear and weakness inside of me.

A new year came a couple of months ago and as I wished things would get better, they have not. Yesterday, I remembered a conversation with my mother, in which she told me that it was a long process for me to be born, meaning that the rate of reproduction for us Javan rhinos was not a quick thing. Thinking now, I havnt seen any youngans 'round here. I guess the population can't rise without them.

After a hard year and a half of research, I finally discovered what those humans find so appealing with my species and it makes me sick. I would throw up but unfortunately, there is no food in my stomach. Darn. But now I'm feeling queasy. My precious horn which when a child I believed was a hidden secret and beauty are still considered in that manner. This 10 in attribute of the Javan Rhinos is a key ingredient in traditional Chinese curing medicines and even with the attempt to end this, the illegal hunting continues to happen.

I wanted to write this fast in case this is my last calling and warning. I was a prized writer, and now writing may be what saves my whole species. I would like to say that I just have a little winter cold but I'm afraid it might be more than that: a disease. I am the most endangered animal on the Earth and I estimate there are only about 60 of us left. Hopefully there won't be 59 in a bit. And if any of those lonely rhinos somehow were able to get a hold of this, please help. I am the only rhino in miles. I wear a leaf over my horn in hopes I will not be recognized. Please. Help. pleas.....
