Cowboy Courier
September 3, 2020
Well, we made it through day 1! I think everyone did an awesome job. We are learning at lightening speed and trying to take care of kids at the same time. Please remember that no matter how stressful or weird the days might be, we will continue to make reasonable and caring decisions for kids. Keeping our students and staff emotionally and physically staff will remain our number 1 priority. The kids are looking to us for reassurance and guidance. As always, let's take care of and support each other as adults. We are in this together! There is not a better team around.
I know our internet was struggling at some times today. I am hoping the magic button to make our WiFi better gets pushed any minute. I know they are working on it!
I bet we will feel a bit more confident tomorrow, and then we will have earned a wonderful 3-day weekend.
Thank you!
Amber
Hallway Procedural Updates
2. During class, teachers may take the most direct route to locations.
3. We will continue to model and expect the one-way hallways during any class passing period or lunch transition. These are the times that are a primary concern for safety.
4. The fine arts hallway will be 2-way, for access to the restroom, during class only. I don't want the kids making the outside loop during class.
Thank you!!
Reminder: DESIGNATED SNACK TIMES
NEW INFO: DESIGNATED SNACK TIMES
We are going to implement a morning and afternoon snack time. It is unrealistic that kids won't need a snack when they eat really early or late in the day. The hope is that once students learn the expectations, this should be a quick process that isn't disruptive. Like everything else, we will adjust as necessary.
6th Grade Snack Time: 2:00-2:10.
7th/8th Grade Snack Time: 11:30-11:41
I realize these times may need to vary a bit based on your lesson design. The idea is that it must happen during that class period and it must be less than 15 minutes without a mask.
Students should only remove their masks to eat a snack IF they bring one. We are not providing a snack nor are we encouraging snacks. We just need to provide a time. We will help free/reduced lunch kids as the need arises. We are not advertising that.
Reinforce that it should be a dry snack they can eat quickly and isn't messy.
This is a time for you to stay 6ft away.
You can continue to teach while they snack. We are just formalizing the times so we don't battle this throughout the day. We can contact trace more easily with a designated class period as well.

Social/Political Attire and Signs
Our school will protect freedom of expression first. You do not need to acknowledge the item or attire. Do not ask students to remove items and do not bring to student to an AP to ask if it is ok. If any of the expressions become a distraction to learning, seek the support of an assistant principal or myself FIRST. We need to provide guidance in these situations and we want to do so in a manner that protects everyone and preserves as safe environment for everyone in our school.

Blue/Silver Lunch Rotations Begin Sept. 3rd
Be sure you give students instructions for lunch beginning Sept. 3rd. They need to know when to go to lunch each day, when to return from lunch each day, and where to go after lunch. You have to tell them if they return to you or go to the next period. Remember virtual students will need to know this as well. Parents won't understand how to navigate this right away.
Here is the Blue/Silver schedule.
