Where are you?

One of my favorite podcast is from a former Navy Seal named Jocko Willink. He recently wrote a book entitled Extreme Ownership (worth the read). In his book and podcast, he will often times share a military themed lesson he has learned with a business/life application. In the most recent episode, he talked about a standard military protocol that all soldiers live by when in combat situations. The greatest need all soldiers have is to know where they are on the battlefield. Effective troop movement can only occur when the soldiers knew where within the field of battle they and the other troops were. Once confirmation was there, you can confidently move forward.

This concept is so very true in teaching as well. We must know where we are and where the students are within their learning and classroom setting. So, this week, take a step back and have an internal conversation with yourself and ask yourself..."Where am I in my teaching?" "Where are my kids in their learning?".

When we have honest conversations we WILL BE more effective in our teaching and leadership.

Survey & Mentoring

No major updates or changes to report. Keep working to get your observations and mentoring sessions scheduled. Especially if you will be coaching a Spring sport. My schedule is listed out to May so schedule all of your sessions if you want to..

I will be sending out a survey to you soon to help me with my mentoring work. It will be anonymous and asking you to give me some feedback on my effectiveness and areas I can better meet you needs. Thanks in advance for helping me.

ETM's - don't neglect them

There are three types of ETMs and numerous titles from which to choose. ETMs can be completed online or in face-to-face sessions.

As a note..unless currently scheduled, there will be no more PEER observation ETM. The funding availability has dried up.

A full listing of the ETMs available can be found at http://www.bluevalleyk12.org/etm.
