Kia ora koutou
Thank you for your support of the school last week when Distance Learning was undertaken. It has been difficult managing the school during staff absence - today we have 10 staff members away. We do appreciate your support.
This week we have averaged 80-90 students away, latterly it has been over the 100 mark so we are improving in getting students back in to school.
We look forward to our Term 1 break to get everyone healthy again.
Today we have students tripping around Taranaki and Wanganui exploring local places of interest - thank you to teachers and parents who have assisted in making this happen, your support is appreciated.
Friday is School Athletics here at school- tomorrow we will email to all families the timetable, half the school will participate in the morning, the other half in the afternoon. Please feel free to come along and support your child- this is an open event for whanau.
Tuesday some students head to New Plymouth for Inter Intermediate Summer Sports Exchange- we also host.
It seems that some normality is seeing the light once again.
Enjoy your weekend

Liz Stewart - Whanau Leader
Tena Koutou Katoa,
Ko Liz Stewart toku ingoa,
I have the privilege of being the teacher in Room 11, Whanau Leader of Waihi and sharing the Sport Coordinator role with Ahinekura Crawford.
I enjoy the challenges that these roles provide me as I get to follow my passion for teaching as well as leading my team where we can develop students academically, culturally and physically. I have been teaching for over 20 years in a variety of roles, and love that I get to support students to develop self belief and the skills to become life long learners.
I was born in Motherwell, Scotland but spent my primary school years growing up in Southern Africa and my high school years in Papua New Guinea. I got my teaching degree in Australia. In 1996 I came to New Zealand and have taught in a variety of schools in Taranaki and Bay of Plenty. My husband, Kyle is the manager of Noel Leeming in Hawera and we have 1 son, Callum who is at Hawera High School.
I look forward to getting to know the students and their whanau throughout the year.

I am proud to share that I am the Minion loving teacher (apparently we have 48 in our signs) from Room 1 in the Waihi Whanau again this year and I am looking forward to continuing to work with this great group of students to help them to achieve their potential for learning as well as their personal goals. This term has seen us planning our directions to success and identifying how we can support each other to do this while we navigate a time of change.
E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari te toa takitahi -
Success is not the work of one, but the work of many.
Steven Yelseth
Kia ora, my name is Mr Yelseth and I am teaching in Room 12 together with Mr Nelly in 2022. My family and I moved to Hawera in 2019 and love the lifestyle and scenery it has to offer. I enjoy most sports and am a member of the Hawera Football Club.
During free time I enjoy the outdoors, especially time at the beach and walking the maunga. I have two daughters, Jade and Samantha who are in their first year of University in Auckland and Dunedin respectively, having graduated from Hawera High School recently.
I believe success comes from the small things we do consistently, and with perseverance and support we can achieve success in class together. In this year, which will see massive change to schooling in Hawera, building resilient, capable and adaptable learners is our goal. Students are encouraged to show independence by setting goals, working collaboratively and self-managing their behaviour to set themselves up for success in life. By showing respect for ourselves, others and our community we can ensure that we contribute positively to the success of everyone.

I have thoroughly enjoyed connecting and strengthening my whakapapa links here in South Taranaki. I left my home in Waitara over a year ago and migrated here to Te Hāwera and I have absolutely loved my journey thus far, making new friendships and creating memories with my Henare Whānau.
I am a proud Mama to my two ataahua daughters Tulip and Trinity-Rose. I am also a loving Nanny to my mokopuna Jehkani who will be turning one at the end of this month.
My whānau and I enjoy the beach, parks, mounga hikoi, kapa haka, sports and Iwi kaupapa.
This year, I have the absolute privilege of teaching in Room 3 alongside the amazing Whaea Trista and an awesome bunch of enthusiastic learners that make each day very exciting and rewarding. This term we have established our classroom treaty and I have been enjoying getting to know everyone's uniqueness they bring to Room 3.
I really look forward to getting to know our whānau and am very excited about what this year brings.
Kia Ora, the netball season is fast approaching and now that we have completed trials your child has been emailed a link to register them to play https://www.sporty.co.nz/viewform/190283. Please complete this by Friday 8th April. Your child will not be able to play until this has been completed.
Due to the unforeseen events of the past two weeks, Year 8 Trials have only been completed. Teams have now been named. Attached are the team lists.
