Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!

Lil Steamer Families --

It's officially "Layer Season" in the midwest! Just this week we have had mornings that were in the 40s and afternoons that were in the 80s.

Please make sure that your children have additional layers that they can put on in the morning or for recess in the event that the temperatures shift. If the wind picks up, it can make for some very cool days.

Have a great weekend!

JAGH

From the desk of: School Counselor Mrs. Meumann

This week during announcements on “Thankful Tuesday,” we talked about how being thankful means appreciating all of the good things in your life. This can help get rid of negative thoughts and feelings. We asked students to think about someone they were thankful for and why they were thankful for that person. Ask your children who they are thankful for.

Band and Chorus

D&M Embroidery has graciously put together a webstore with apparel boasting the FES Band and Chorus! Check out all the design choices! A percentage of all sales will benefit River Bend Music Boosters.

LIBRARY NEWS

The students enjoyed all the caterpillars and chrysalids that have been in the Library since school started. We successfully released 10 male Monarch butterflies and 32 females! We have 1 more chrysalis to go.

Agriculture in the Classroom: 2nd Grade

2nd grade is teaming up with Whiteside County Agriculture in the Classroom this year! Throughout the school year we will be learning about different aspects of agriculture and how it is important to us! This week they worked in groups to unlock boxes by solving riddles that had to do with agriculture! We learned in order to make pizza we depend on farmers to supply us with the products we need to make pizza, sell pizza, and distribute pizza. We need farmers and depend on them every day for food, fiber, and fuel!

Please check your recycling!

The third grade team is in need of several empty, clear or translucent, plastic one liter bottles with lids for upcoming math lessons. This is a common size of large bottled water, such as Smartwater. If you have any clean and empty one liter bottles please send them to our third grade team. Thanks in advance!

All Physical Education Classes:

Please remember that all students should have gym shoes for class. Students that are wearing: Crocs, Hey Dudes, sandals, boots or other non gym shoes, will be sitting out of class and points will be taken off of their Physical Education Grade. This is due to safety for themselves and others in their class.

5th Grade Author Meeting

5th grade students had the opportunity to meet an author on Friday, September 16. Stacy Bauer is a teacher turned author who writes children's books that are both fiction and non-fiction. The 5th grade classes did a Zoom meeting with her and learned all about the process to become a published author. She talked about how she got her start, how each step is done, read to us, and even talked about football with us! If you are interested in learning more, please visit stacycbauer.com.
