State Report Card shows high test scores for LIW!
The South Dakota Department of Education has released school information from the 2015-2016 school year. The test scores are based on the Smarter Balanced Assessment taken by 3rd-5th grade students in the spring. We were above the state average in math, reading and attendance! You may view the report card at this website: http://doe.sd.gov/reportcard/listnew/.
If you have a spare couple minutes, please enter your information in a contest below for our school to win playground equipment. This equipment would be perfect for our indoor recess days! (Please note there is a box to uncheck at the bottom of the page so you don't receive emails from the company.)
Counselor's Corner
On Nov. 4th the improv group SPOOFED, out of Mitchell High School, will be in De Smet to perform skits and facilitate a discussion with the elementary students on bullying/cyberbullying and addictions. These come at a perfect time as the month of October is Bullying Prevention Month and Red Ribbon Week is the last week in October. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact me- Rachel.Kary@k12.sd.us or 605-854-3423 ext. 5. Counseling classroom lessons will also continue, along with lunch groups!

A message from the PTO President
Last year we started the LIW PTO with for the purpose of supporting the education of the children at LIW Elementary. We implemented a number of programs last year and we hope to continue those this year. On Nov. 4th, we will be serving a hot dog meal at the book fair. We are also busy planning our 2nd Annual Christmas Tree Auction that will be held on Dec. 1st. In order for us to be successful, we need your help as volunteers. We hold meetings once a month on the 3rd Tuesday at 7 pm in the High School Library. If you are interested in helping but can't make it to meetings, join our Remind list or email me at traci.schoenfelder@k12.sd.us.
