Comet Connection-24
February 12- February 16, 2024
Hi Comet Families,
We hope you had a great week. The KCES staff would like to send a HUGE thank you to our PTA and other volunteers who provided various soups, chili, salads, and desserts for our annual Soup Luncheon! Everything was super tasty!
We are continuing our House Reading Challenge! Thank you for supporting your child with reading and filling out the colored strips. We can't wait to see our chain links growing down the hallways.
FYI: Kula House Breakfast/Unity Day- Feb. 23rd! More information coming soon.
When should my child stay home?
Your child should stay home if he or she:
· Has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher before taking a fever reducing medication
· Has active vomiting or diarrhea due to illness
· Has symptoms that prevent him or her from participating in school and appears to be ill, such as:
Excessive tiredness or lack of appetite
Persistent or productive cough
Headache, body aches, earache
Severe sore throat
· Has an unknown rash or possible contagious condition
· Has red irritated eyes with crusting and drainage
Students may return to school after an illness when they have:
· Been fever free (below 100.4 degrees) without fever reducing medication for 24 hours.
· 24 hours after the last occurrence of active vomiting or diarrhea caused by illness.
· 24 hours after beginning antibiotics for diagnosed strep or conjunctivitis (pink eye).
Returning too soon may slow down the recovery process and unnecessarily expose others to illness. Your child may be asked to stay home longer if recommended by the Health Department during illnesses such as influenza or vomiting and diarrhea caused by certain viruses.

Kid's Heart Challenge!
Kid’s Heart Challenge Update!
We are getting closer to our event week February 26 - March 1 and all you Comets are crushing it! To date we have raised over $10,000 for the American Heart Association, putting us close to our goal of $15,000. That is an amazing total in such a short amount of time.
Out of nearly 200 students who have registered on the AHA Schools app or KHC website, 25 who have completed Finn’s Mission. Our goal is to have over 100 students complete Finn’s Mission, and as a reward anyone who completes it will get the chance to silly string Mr. Monger.
Visit heart.org/schools or download the AHA Schools app to register and join our team of Heart Hero Comets!
