Last Days of School: June 19 and 20 -- Passion Days
Joseph Case High School prioritizes student relationship-building. This is our charge when the year begins and we like to continue to make connections with students in the final days of the year a well.
The school has put together more than 40 event proposals for each day. The idea was introduced at our final faculty gathering, rolled out to students by the principal in class assemblies, and clarified in small advisory groups. Students chose two activities: one for each day in most cases.
Why is it called Passion Days? Strong interpersonal relationships result when adults model their passions to students. These interests can be related to their Case High academic area or have more to do with hobbies and activities outside of a teacher's school life.
Our activities have a wide range from cooking to dancing, whiffle ball to building a wooden bow tie. Some students will work in community service areas like helping at an elementary school to a beach clean up with a chance to start your summer reading on the sand. We have meditative hikes, knitting for a charity, scavenger and treasure hunts, and geocaching. Some students will put on a musical in two days; others will restore the weight room.
Best of all: every student had the chance to choose something.
It was a tremendous undertaking with very quick turn around time. But the notion of Passion Days has ignited an excitement at the end of School Street and Cardinal Way like no other school year.
We believe not only in taking risks at Joseph Case High School for the betterment of children, but believe that we must model this expectation as well.
