WBMS Friday Notes
January 27, 2023
Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Looking for something to do tonight as a family? Please join us at 7 PM for our annual Talent Show. I have seen the program, and it will be outstanding! Both our girls and boys basketball teams played and won their first games this week, and Aryan, our WBMS Spelling Bee winner, finished in the top seven at the county competition last weekend, which means he will move on to the state bee.
Also, we just found out today that WBMS was named a State School of Character by Character.org making us the first traditional middle school in Georgia to receive this honor! The group judges schools on 11 principals, and we are thrilled our students, staff, and community have been recognized for cultivating a culture of character. Congratulations, Jaguars!
Stay warm and enjoy the weekend!
In collaboration -
Rebecca Williams
Principal, Webb Bridge Middle School

Parents and Guardians-Please Read
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours, and that appropriate store-bought items are delivered to the administration. Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
6th Grade Cultural Kalediscope Field Trip Fernbank Planetarium March 8, 2023
A visit to the Fernbank Planetarium!
The planetarium is the third largest in the country and had recently been refitted with a 4K laser driven projection system. Students will also explore the exhibits, including the actual Apollo six capsule, a copy of the space suit worn by Neil Armstrong and meteorites, many of which landed in Georgia.
PLEASE NOTE – this is the Fernbank Science Center, not to be confused with Fernbank Museum of Natural History!
Impact Earth teaches about meteors, meteorites, asteroids, and comets. The film shows dramatically the effects of the Chixulub and Tungusta events, plus the Pallasite impact that resulted in the Brenham meteorite fall. Impact Earth describes ways that asteroid hunters seek new objects in the solar system and how ground penetrating radar is used to find meteorites that have survived to the Earth’s surface. Narrated by astronaut Tom Jones, the show also discusses ways that humans might try to deflect an asteroid or comet that is on a collision course with Earth.
Cost: FREE
Cultural Kaleidoscope is a component of the Bridge to Success/Expanded Programs Option for the Fulton County School District. Attention 8th Grade Parents-Message from AHS
WBMS 8th grade Parents and Guardians –
I cannot believe it is already time to discuss high school, but it is. I will send out specific information from Dr. Kersey, principal of Alpharetta High School, but I want to make you aware of some dates, so you can mark your calendars.
Here is what you need to know: Our 8th grade teachers are currently busy making course recommendations based on their training from Alpharetta High School. You will be able to see your student’s course recommendations on Tuesday, January 31st. You and your student will have until February 8th to finalize course requests. There are many family decisions that go into making your student’s final course requests, so I recommend the events below to fully inform yourselves:
- On January 31st, AHS will host a virtual Transition Night, which will be livestreamed beginning at 6 PM. This event will go over details regarding courses and is for all AHS families.
- On February 6th from 5:30 – 6:30, AHS will host a face-to-face event for rising night grade families specifically (parents and students). This event will include a Q and A session with a panel of parents, students, and educators.
- Also on February 6th after the above event from 6:30 to 7:30, AHS will host a face-to-face event that focuses on math specifically. This event is for rising 9th grade families (parents and students).
- Additionally, our 8th graders will take a field trip to AHS on February 7th. If you have not already done so, please complete the permission form here by February 1st : https://form.jotform.com/230053809045046

Flourishing Friday – Week of 1-16
Today the students practiced square breathing. The purpose of deep breathing is to relieve stress, calm our nervous system down, ease panic and worry and to help bring more oxygen to our body.
Here is a quick visual of what square breathing is:
Box breathing you will take a big breath in for 4 seconds – hold for 4 seconds – breathe out for 4 seconds and then hold for 4 seconds.
The students practiced with a guided meditation. The link is below. Feel free to practice with your child.

2nd Annual WBMS Walks for Water
The 2nd Annual WBMS Walks for Water is just 7 weeks away, and we would love for you all to come. The event will take place on Sunday, February 26th from 2-5 pm at WBMS. This is a family friendly event, so all are welcome.
For those of you who are new to WBMS, we hosted the inaugural walk last year and had over 200 people attend. We walked with gallon jugs in our hands as a show of solidarity for the people of South Sudan who walk for water daily, and we hosted a Village Market run by students. We hope you will join us and WALK. LEARN. SHOP. PLAY. All proceeds go to our new partner Water is Basic. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to repair 20 wells in the Warrap State of South Sudan.
Please consider registering for the event. If you can’t make it, please consider donating. It takes a village!

Front Office volunteers:
Our school was recently named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence!
To earn this designation WBMS had to demonstrate families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and that our PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of PTA and our phenomenal administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
To learn more about this accomplishment or to support our PTA during the Fall Membership Drive, visit wbmspta.org.
Do you know a family in need at WBMS?
Please reach out to our counseling staff so we can find ways to help.
Our Community Cupboard provides emergency necessities for families in our school experiencing hardship.
Please consider making a donation! Our largest need currently is gift cards in any amount to Kroger or Walmart.
You may leave your donations at the Front Office. Please mark them PTA/Community Cupboard. Thank you!
