The BIG question??? What will school look like?
Hello Tustumena Families,
There are several small questions yet to answer, but the big question is, "What will going to Tustumena Elementary look like for my child?"
Here is a shortish answer:
Starting August 24, 2020, Student drop off at 8:45- students go directly to classroom or lunchroom.
Social distancing will be in place as much as possible in every classroom. K-2 do not need to have masks in the classroom but will need one for transitions in the hallway. Grades 3-6 will not need to wear them either because Tustumena has the good fortune as to have enough space for 6ft between each student (in many cases we will need to move some tables and furniture out of classrooms.)
PE will occur on a building schedule. All effort will be put into minimizing classes passing each other in the hallway. Students will wear masks in the hallway when 6ft cannot be maintained
Lunch will be held keeping social distancing in mind as well. We may eat in the gym or the classroom. We have several options to have lunch AND maintain social distancing.
Teachers will be working on plans to include off-site students into key learning opportunities. This will look different from classroom to classroom. We will coordinate at the building level as much as possible as to not overlap at-home learners in families. This will not be perfect but we will make great effort to meet the needs of at-home learners.
Busing questions are still being worked out. We are asking parents to provide transportation when possible as we calculate the needs for social distancing. Masks will likely be needed on the bus.
One thing you can do to help is to fill out the survey below:
Please know there are details to come and, unfortunately, sometimes with the Covid 19 protocols, things may change, but here is where we plan to start:
Quick School Choice Poll
Schools need your help: parents and guardians - kindly take a less than one-minute poll asking, if you had to choose today, Which K-12 learning option would be best for your child?
Responses will assist principals and school instructional leaders during the Leadership Academy next week with plans for the opening of school on August 24, 2020. This is not your definitive answer—you will receive a separate required “Returning School Information Update” response form next week. Your quick poll response is needed by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Q28JDBS
More information yet to come. I just wanted to touch base with you to let you know we are working on the details.
I am looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Thanks
