Burr and Burton Academy's Library
FALL 2018
Welcome & Overview
Welcome new faculty to Burr and Burton Academy! I would like to take this opportunity to describe the space and services that are offered by the Lisa B. Tuttle Library.
The Lisa B. Tuttle Library is a beautiful space open to all faculty and students before and after school in additional to regular school hours. The library has a collection of over 10,000 print and digital items. In addition to our own collection, we belong to the Northshire Consortium and share resources with Manchester Elementary Middle School and Manchester Community Library, which brings our total local collection to over 50,000 items. Our goal is to provide materials to enrich the curriculum as well as your personal interests. If we don’t have a book that you are looking for locally, we will request an interlibrary loan through the Vermont Department of Libraries system which contacts public, school and university libraries.
Also located in the library are the Hunter Seminar Room (HSR) and the Writing Center. The HSR is a great space for small group lectures and presentations. The Writing Center is wonderful for working with one or two students. See below for information about reserving these spaces.
In addition to our physical space and resources, we have many useful electronic resources including research databases and downloadable ebook and audiobooks.
Most importantly I would like to highlight my desire to collaborate with you. I am happy to host classes in the library or come to your classroom to work with your students. Ideas for collaboration could include but are not limited to: teaching or support of research skills, book talking for students' independent book selection, and assisting with selection and support of apps for presentation of student learning. Please contact me to discuss the details of your project. I would love to work with you.

You will notice some free book displays around campus and in the library. Please feel free to add to these shelves or help yourself to the offerings. If you have an idea for a location that could benefit from one of these displays, please let me know.

Reserving the Hunter Seminar Room and Library Spaces
The Hunter Seminar Room (HSR) and the library are shared spaces for the entire Burr and Burton Community to use. Small groups are always welcome in the library. In order to ensure that the space is not crowded, if you plan to bring a class to the library or would like to use the Hunter Seminary Room, we ask that you reserve it in advance. There is often last minute availability, so should a sudden need pop up, of course please call or email, but it is best to reserve in advance. You may see the current availability of the spaces by looking at the Google calendars for HSR or Library
To reserve times during the school day or for morning meetings, please contact Margi Putney. To reserve times after school, evenings and weekends please contact Franci Carieri.
